⁨ تعلّمت هافسانور سانجاكتوتان الكثير عن معنى القوة، ولعل أهم ما أدركته أن الخوف والهشاشة والتردد مشاعر لا تمنعها من الثقة بنفسها ومواصلة طريقها.

⁨ ⁨ ⁨ “لم يعد لدينا عذر لنقول إن الحلم مستحيل.”
تنتمي رسيل العتيبي إلى جيل يبدأ من مكان مختلف تمامًا. فالفرص التي كانت يومًا مجرد أحلام أصبحت جزءًا من الواقع الذي نشأت فيه، وهي تدرك جيدًا ما يعنيه أن ترث هذا الواقع. تقول لـ”هي”: “أشياء كثيرة نعيشها اليوم بصورة طبيعية احتاجت من أجيال قبلنا إلى الكثير من العمل والصبر حتى تصبح ممكنة. لكنني أعتقد أن الحظ بالفرص يأتي معه نوع آخر من المسؤولية.”
وبصفتها الأصغر بين ثلاثة أجيال، تمثل رسيل جيلًا يبدأ من مساحة أوسع من الفرص، ويدرك أن دوره لا يقتصر على الاستفادة منها، بل أن يضيف إليها ما يخصه.

“We no longer have an excuse to say a dream is impossible.”
Raseel Al Otaibi belongs to a generation beginning from a very different place. Opportunities that once had to be imagined are now part of the world she has grown up in, and she is keenly aware of what that inheritance means. “So many things we experience naturally today required years of work and patience from the generations before us to become possible,” she tells Hia. “I think being fortunate in our opportunities comes with another kind of responsibility.”
The youngest of three generations, she represents a future that begins with more possibilities, alongside an awareness that her generation has a responsibility to add something of its own. Her own ambitions already stretch in more than one direction, from acting and reaching audiences beyond Saudi Arabia to continuing her university studies and exploring her fascination with space. “I don’t think a person should limit themselves to one dream.”

⁨ “أنا اليوم أحلم بلا سقف.”
بدأت إلهام علي مسيرتها في واقع يختلف كثيرًا عما تعرفه اليوم. كان اختيار الفن يواجه الكثير من الأحكام، وكان عليها أن تدافع عن اختيارها قبل أن تحصل حتى على فرصة لإثبات نفسها. ثم شهدت اتساع الفرص من حولها، وكبرت طموحاتها معها. تقول إلهام لـ”هي”: “أعتبر نفسي ابنة جيل محظوظ، لكنه لم يبدأ محظوظًا. أنا لم أسمع عن تحول الفن السعودي فقط، بل عشت هذا التحول بنفسي.”
هذه التجربة تضع إلهام في قلب عدد السعودية لشهر سبتمبر من “هي”. فمسيرتها تمتد بين واقعين؛ تعرف معنى أن تقاتل من أجل الفرصة، كما تعرف شعور أن تصبح الفرص أمامها أكبر من أحلامها الأولى. واليوم، يتجاوز طموحها البحث عن مكانها الخاص، لتكون جزءًا من الحكاية السعودية التي تروى للعالم، حكاية تصل بفضل هويتها، لا رغم هويتها.

“Today, there are no limits to how far I can dream.”
For Elham Ali, those words carry the weight of having known a very different reality. She began her career when choosing a life in the arts still meant confronting judgment and fighting for the chance to prove herself. Then, she watched the possibilities around her expand, and her own ambitions expand with them. “I consider myself part of a fortunate generation, but we didn’t start out fortunate,” she tells Hia. “I didn’t just hear about the transformation of Saudi art. I lived it myself.”
It is this experience that places Elham at the heart of Hia’s September Saudi issue: a woman whose career spans two realities, who remembers what it meant to fight for an opportunity and knows what it feels like to see opportunities become greater than the dreams she began with.
Now, her ambition reaches beyond finding her own place. She wants to be part of a Saudi story told to the world, a story that travels because of its identity, not despite it.

⁨ “ها قد تحققت أحلامنا.”
قليلات يستطعن قول هذه الكلمات من موقع مريم الغامدي وتجربتها. كانت لا تزال طفلة حين دخلت الإذاعة السعودية، لتبدأ مسيرتها في زمن كان فيه حضور المرأة في الإعلام والفن يواجه الكثير من التحديات. ومن الإذاعة إلى المسرح والتمثيل والكتابة والإنتاج، واصلت بناء مسيرتها في وطنها، حتى عندما فتحت أمامها فرص العمل في الخارج أبوابها.
اليوم، تختصر قصتها زمنين مختلفين في المملكة: زمن كانت فيه مجرد البداية تتطلب شجاعة، وحاضر تبدأ فيه أجيال جديدة من النساء من سؤال مختلف: إلى أي مدى يمكنهن الوصول؟

“Our dreams have come true.”
Few could say those words with the perspective Mariam Alghamdi brings to them. She was still a child when she entered Saudi radio, beginning a career at a time when a woman’s place in media and the arts was still being contested. She would go on to work across radio, theatre, acting, writing and production, choosing to build that career at home even when opportunities abroad came calling.
Today, hers is a story that connects two very different moments in Saudi Arabia: the years when simply beginning demanded courage, and a present in which a new generation of women can begin by asking how far they want to go.

على غلاف عدد سبتمبر من “هي”، تجتمع مريم الغامدي وإلهام علي ورسـيل العتيبي، ثلاث سعوديات من ثلاثة أجيال، تنطلق كل واحدة منهن من واقع كان على الجيل الذي سبقها أن يتخيله يومًا. واحدة عرفت كم تطلّب فتح الأبواب من شجاعة، وأخرى شهدت اتساعها، فيما تنطلق الأصغر سنًا من عالم باتت فيه الفرص أكبر، ومعها مسؤولية الاستفادة منها وصناعة فرص جديدة لمن يأتي بعدها.

Every generation inherits something from the one before it. What matters is how much further it takes it.
For Hia’s September cover, Mariam Alghamdi, Elham Ali and Raseel Al Otaibi come together as three generations of Saudi women, each beginning with a reality the generation before her once had to imagine. One remembers the courage it took to open doors, another witnessed those doors open wider, while the youngest steps into a world of possibility with the responsibility to push it further still. Together, they tell the story of a country where ambition has grown alongside opportunity, and where every dream realized has made room for an even greater one. As Elham tells Hia, “Mariam reminds us where we started, Raseel makes us imagine where we’re going, and I belong to the space in between, where everything changed.”
For our annual Saudi issue, Hia looks at the Kingdom through three generations of women: one who witnessed its beginnings, one who lived its transformation, and one looking towards everything still to come.
