YIAYIA NEXT DOOR X MAYA BARNSTONE - an artistic collaboration capturing one of Australia’s most powerful food stories 💛

The transformative power of a home cooked meal - this is the story of @yiayianextdoor

During one of the hardest chapters of Daniel and Luke Mancuso’s lives losing their mother to domestic violence, their neighbour (a Greek grandmother) began passing home cooked meals over the fence in an act of love.

This special poster is a portrait of Yemista, a traditional dish of stuffed peppers that Yiayia cooks every week, painted by artist Maya Barnstone. Just one of the many meals that helped stitch a community, and two brothers, back together.

@mayaspaintings brought this recipe to life with a sense of deep familiarity. With Greek heritage of her own and a recent exhibition in Greece alongside her own late yiayia’s paintings, this collaboration felt like a homecoming 🇬🇷

Giving back through food is at the core of this story and what we do at Food For Everyone. The sale of each poster contributes 10 meals to people in need through @secondbiteorg 🍽️

Baba’s good friends, @foodforeveryone.aus are hosting ‘Still Life For Everyone’, an exhibition + art sale, at Baba’s Place on Tuesday 29th April.

13 artists to create responses to a series of still-life displays curated by Baba’s creative team. These 100+ works will then be exhibited in Baba’s warehouse, and made available to purchase for $55 per piece.

This is a charitable event, with 100% of profits from the artwork sales going to @secondbiteorg to help get food on the table for those in need.

Featuring works by Ben Mazey, Eleni Ioakimidis, Mikey Freedom, Nicole Nelius, Lisa Nooin, Tiarna Herczeg, Rahma Soliman, Gemma Leslie, Phoebe Stone, Evi O, Jacqueline Jacky, Maya Barnstone, Emily Heath, and more, this is an incredible opportunity to own an original piece of art made with a social and community intention.

Baba will also be pouring wines and barbequing cevapis - yep, the Rockdale Roll is back.

Tickets available through the link in our bio!

We acknowledge that we operate and gather on stolen land belonging to the Gadigal and Wangal People of the Eora Nation, of which this event will be taking place. Entry to this event is free for First Nations peoples, get in touch for a ticket or let us know at the door :)
