Came for the beauty conversations. Left thinking about how we build, lead, and make room for what’s next 💭 At @boardroombeautyco ‘s Annual Leaders Forum, the conversations went beyond growing a brand to the people, decisions, and support behind it. From earning attention without losing your identity, to making the ask you’ve been sitting on, to protecting your capacity as the business grows. There was plenty to bring back to the founders we work with and a lot we actually needed to hear ourselves 😌 Thank you to Boardroom Beauty and the speakers for the honest perspectives and to all of the fellow beauty girlies we got the chance to connect and re-connect with 💞. These spaces always leave us with something to think about and someone we’re glad we met. Swipe through for the notes and send this to a founder you’re rooting for 💖

Growing up, having access to a third space, to nature, to a nervous system that feels worthy of play and exploration was hard to come by as a New Yorker and child of immigrant's, many of my firsts in life and my career from jobs in entertainment and journalism to exploring the countryside were a product of black communities that allowed me in as a guest and nurtured me. Last night I had the privilege of producing an event with the founders of @noirvalleyny Noir Valley NY is a Black- owned Hudson valley based service that produces experiences in nature around art, food and exploration with the black community in mind. They are partnering with black owned businesses in the valley while bringing tourists, visitors and city folk to explore the valley through the Black lens. Book a custom experience with @noirvalleyny and stay tuned for their next event this winter. If you have nature near you as tensions rise, find time for play and punctuate it with equity building and freedom talks. Engineers by day. Founders and builders by choice. Maya Miller (Software Engineer at Uber, founder of @sistemcollective ) and Hailey Manuel (Senior Software Engineer at SeatGeek, Program Manager at CodeHouse Community) join me to talk about building a career in software engineering as Black women, and a life that’s bigger than the job title. We get into the rise of the professional content creator, how they landed Big Tech internships back to back since high school, the manager who tried to talk Hailey out of software engineering, and how they build without burning out. New episode is out now. Comment 🎓 and I’ll send you the link. #BlackWomenInTech #SoftwareEngineer #WomenInSTEM #TechCareers #CareerAdvice
