🎁Vowel/Letter Sound Gift Box Sticky Note Activity🎁
My Girls are so into sticky notes at the moment and I will be using their interest to help them learn!😁

Here is a simple activity we did using mini sticky notes to work on reviewing the short vowel sounds.

🔴What are vowels?
Out of the 26 letters of the English alphabet, letters A, E, I, O, and U are called vowels. Letters other than these 5 are called consonants.

💡Did you know:

Vowels are present within all the words found in the English Language. So without learning vowel sounds, it is impossible to pronounce any word in the language.

🔴Why is it important to teach our children vowels?
Teaching vowels is crucial to developing good reading skills in our little ones. Vowels help our littles understand the difference between CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words like cat and pig, bat and pet, etc. Without a good understanding of vowels, children often find it difficult to read and spell words correctly.

🟡This activity was created by:
🔻Cutting green construction paper into squares and glueing them into their journals.
🔻Using markers to turn the green squares into gift boxes with sections for the girls to sort by letter sounds.
🔻 Drawing objects that begin with the vowels for the girls to sort and place them into the respected boxes by sounds.

🔴This activity allowed them to work on the following skills:

🔻Letter sounds
🔻Blending
🔻Extending their vocabulary
🔻Concentration
🔻Hand-eye coordination
🔻Hand dexterity
🔻Fine motor skills
I allowed the girls to use glue to hold their sticky notes in place more securely so that we did not loose any. We will use this activity to review our vowel sounds for the week.

🔢🎃 Number Name Recognition 🎃🔢

Ahaan has been obsessed with spellings of numbers , so came up with this fun number play around the theme autumn for him. All he had to do was guess the number name on the pumpkin and match the leaves with the right number to it .

Materials required are just cut outs of pumpkins and leaves .

Ahaan was so excited just looking at the setup and had fun matching the leaves to the pumpkins.

Beach/Ocean Unit Study

As we enter the final week before we start our new curriculum I decided to extend our beach unit and do our other units a little bit later on in the year.

What we used:

☀️We checked out a ton of books from the library! I’ll be sharing which ones we used and a highlighting the ones that we fell in love with.

☀️We used the clam letters sheet to help identify three letters words from @mblearning

☀️We used the shell identification chart from @fiddlesticks.education
☀️We use the seashore chart and three part cards from @stephhathawaydesigns

There’s so many great books out there both Fiction and nonfiction to teach your kiddos about ocean life on the beach! And of course we went to the beach as our field trip (a lake beach but still fun).

🐘🐘 World Elephant Day 🐘🐘

This week I have joined the World Elephant Day (12/8) play challenge over at @weeklythemeplay

World elephant day has been created to bring the world together to help elephants
It’s a Day to honour elephants , to spread awareness about the critical threats they are facing and to support positive that will help ensure their survival .
So to honour this day we did fun craft activity featuring the elephant 🐘
Materials required:-
Cuts of elephant pasted on cardboard, cello tape to paste it from behind the cut out to avoid mess free sticking, earbuds coloured blue to resemble the drops of water coming out on elephants trunk,
For filling the body of the elephant we used stones ( grey /slate) and googley eye for the eye of the elephant.

Ahaan has super time sticking the stones all over the body. He loves sensory plays so the setup was quite inviting for him. Later we even studied some fun facts and figures about Elephants 🐘

Letter of the day B b

Today we focused on the letter B for the letter of the day. We went over the sound and then practised writing the letter B.

We used our beautiful wipeable letter cards from @curious_columbus. Jacob loved using then and placing the letters on the board. We also used our flash cards from @teaher

Jacob also looked on the table to identity what objects begin with the letter B. I found objects we had in the house and I used some of our magnets from our @curious_columbus dinosaur and object sets.

This is a fun way to learn about letters and writing. He is getting so much better at writing his letters.

Tape peel away canvas art🧑‍🎨🌈

This activity was inspired by @read_eat.play who did this art work with her daughter and I loved the idea.

So this was perfect for Jacob as he is really enjoying painting at the moment. He was in his element and loved painting the canvas with all the colours of the rainbow.

Once it was all painted Jacob helped me peel of the tape to reveal this beautiful painting.

Blue whale sensory puzzle to celebrate World Oceans day.

I decided to re use our whale sensory puzzle to celebrate World oceans day. I also dyed some shells that we have collected at a variety of beaches we have visited.

Jacob enjoyed filling up the whale and we talked about what things we can do to protect the oceans. We also have a little helper by the name of Noah who decided he wanted to join in. He did so well as helping fill in the sea part of the sensory puzzle. It was really nice seeing the boys work together.

World oceans day is to help inform the public of the impact human actions are having on the oceans.

Things we can do to protect the oceans:

*Take care of our beaches
* Use fewer plastic products
* Mind our carbon footprint
* Make safe, sustainable

The colour monster🟡🔵🔴⚫🟢💖

We finally got a copy of the colour monster from the library and we absolutely loved the story. So I thought as Jacob is really into drawing and colouring I would set him up a colour activity based on the colour monster.

I drew him a picture of all the different colour monster's and he had to colour them in. We talked about the colours and what emotion each colour represented. Jacob loved colouring each of them.

Once he coloured them I placed then on the wall above their coloured jar.

I then gave him some cardboard colours for him to colour in and then to place them in the correct coloured jar.

While Jacob was doing this activity he showed me emotions like happy, sad, scared and angry. We also used our @the_freckled_frog How am I feeling? wooden blocks to show other emotions.
