The NYC party for Single Girls by @johnsearles brought so many former Cosmo editors and contributors together. What a blast! The novel is based on the 1960s magazine world and inspired by Helen Gurley Brown, Cosmo’s OG EIC. When I joined Cosmo (the first time) in late 1999, John was on sabbatical writing his first book— and I was given his office! That could have been a non-starter for us, but we became BFFs, working side by side for many years under the fabulous @katewhite_author — and with so many other talented creatives— building one of the most successful media brands of all time. It was thrilling. I left to run Women’s Health, but when I returned to Cosmo as the Editor in Chief, one of the first things I did was bring John back. There is nobody better to write a novel inspired by the trailblazing women of that era. Special shoutout to @loveshackfancy founder @becknyc and @mccoolstyle (two former Cosmo fashion editors) for hosting. Check out the book— it’s the perfect summer read. Tonight, the LA party!

There are parties and then there are MAGICAL PARTIES, like the one Michelle McCool, founder of MCCOOLSTYLE, and Rebecca Hessel Cohen, founder and creative director of the amazing LoveShack Fancy, gave this week at Rebecca’s flagship store in Soho, in honor of John Searles’ stunning new novel, SINGLE GIRLS (July 7) about the life of legendary Cosmo editor Helen Gurley Brown. All four of us worked together at Cosmo and it was incredible to be with them and all the other fabulous former Cosmo girls who showed up. I had the greatest job in the world as Cosmo’s editor-in-chief for 14 years, and the most awesome, wonderful staff. What a reunion! And what a celebration of John’s soon-to- be bestseller. Um, the theme was pink but I just had to wear leopard because that was kind of my uniform in those days!!

It was an incredible honor to host my friend @doergek at the studio in celebration of her book Reimagining Grief, which is truly inspiring. Kate’s book talks about how you can either by consumed by grief, or move forward (something I’ve been learning to do with my own grief, and celebrating my parents). As someone who experienced immeasurable loss in a brief amount of time—first her parents, and then her 16-year-old daughter Penny—Kate wrote the book she wished she’d had to help move forward, to learn there’s no “right way” to grieve. We had to help support and celebrate by putting butterflies (for Penny, which represent an inextinguishable soul drawn toward light) everywhere—around the room, and even as graze boards. Kate, you’re amazing and your book is incredible. Thank you for sharing it with us all. Comment “butterfly” for some of our favorite 🦋 details…and of course to get the link for Kate’s book!
