Every week my kids choose a country and I try my best to make a breakfast dish from that country. It is a great way for my both my kids and I to learn about different cultures.

This week we learned about Fiji 🇫🇯!

I decided to make Babakau, which is a fried bread similar to a donut. It is a staple breakfast dish in Fiji often paired with butter or jams but some people also make savory versions. I made a gluten free version using Green Banana Flour and Coconut Sugar.

It is a major comfort food in Fiji as lots of people prepare this in their homes and so growing up each household has their own recipes and way of serving it. Even so it is almost always accompanied by tea whether it be for breakfast or afternoon tea.

Any breakfast with fried bread in my house is always a hit ❤️

Yet another breakfast the whole family enjoyed on our culinary trip around the world!

Duvall Farmers Market is something special. The closing night for our 2026 season was especially wonderful. The clear, sunny, fall evening air was filled with the loveliest sound of @sheyenne.lee singing and playing. The community showed up to shop local and stayed to enjoy the moment, the music, all the children playing, the good food.

The vendor community and market team here is something unique too. People helping each other, encouraging each other, cheering each other on. We love our hometown market, and appreciate all the many parts it takes to come together and make it so good.

We have an active “off-season” planned and you can keep enjoying your beef and tallow skincare through pick-up and delivery options. Most of the vendors have their own online storefronts and more markets planned, so give them a follow and keep shopping local!

We make it a point to try and have a date night every week even if it is just at home so my wife and I have a chance to decompress and connect with each other. It can be tougher when you have kids. Luckily I have @mccormickjamco and this easy hack to make a quick mignonette featuring their pink huckleberry jam (one of the few in the world) that goes perfect with some fresh PNW seafood. It is the perfect way to wind down our week.

Mignonette

1 shallot diced
2 tbsp pink huckleberry jam
1/4 cup white wine vinegar

Mix ingredients and refrigerate for at least 30 min

Country music, Thai food, and the return of a market favorite. Don't miss our first October market of the season! 🍂💚

🎶 CJ Hooper joins us with country music shaped by his Texas roots and a love of the classics.

🍜 Bai Tong on Wheels is back for their second visit of the season, serving authentic Thai comfort food for dinner.

☕ And Outlands Coffee is back! It’s been a while since we’ve had them at the market, and we’re so happy to welcome them back for one of our final Thursdays of the year.

They join a great lineup of farmers, bakers, makers, and other local food vendors, and it’s a pretty good reason to spend your Thursday afternoon at Taylor Landing.

Remember our October hours are a little shorter!

What a weekend. What a community. And what a way to have a whole lot of fun while raising funds that go right back into our community.

Of course, we couldn’t officially wrap up Blackberry Festival without recognizing a few of our “berry good” vendors. 🏆🍇

Thank you to everyone who showed up, volunteered, sponsored, vended, ate something blackberry and helped make this weekend what it was.

We’ll see you next Labor Day weekend, Bremerton! 💜
