We are the network that supports MI survivors: with legal and policy advocacy, expert training, and someone always on the other end of the phone.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Survivors have already carried the cost of silence. We should not have to spend our lives fighting for the chance to be heard.

At Interlochen, an investigation documented approximately 70 firsthand accounts of physical sexual misconduct involving 47 accused adults, spanning seven decades.

Behind every account is a person whose safety, trust, and future mattered then, and still matter now.

Michigan lawmakers have two opportunities to act:

🔹 JUSTICE FOR SURVIVORS PACKAGE — SB 257–261
Expand the legal deadlines for survivors to bring civil lawsuits over sexual abuse. Finding the safety to disclose can take years. Access to justice should reflect that reality.

🔹 HOUSE RESOLUTION 284
Create a legislative committee to investigate Interlochen Center for the Arts and its relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. Survivors and the public deserve answers.

Both priorities remain in the House Government Operations Committee, chaired by Brian BeGole.

BRIAN BEGOLE AND MATT HALL: SURVIVORS ARE ASKING YOU TO ACT.

Chairman BeGole, bring these measures before your committee. Speaker Hall, use your leadership to move them forward.

We’re organizing a protest at your Lansing offices with a clear demand:

HOLD HEARINGS. ADVANCE BOTH MEASURES.

Expressions of concern are not enough. Survivors deserve action.

SURVIVOR GROUPS, ADVOCATES & ALLIES: WE NEED YOU.

Help us plan, reach your communities, and bring people together. Whether you represent an organization or are one person ready to stand with survivors, there is a place for you.

Message @misurvivorjustice to help organize or receive updates. Share this post so it reaches people who want to help.

Date and meeting details will be announced. You do not have to tell your story publicly to participate.

We have different stories. We can make this demand together.

Justice shouldn’t expire.

A title does not erase a report of abuse. Community connections do not replace accountability. Silence is not due diligence.

David McNeilly is president of Mid-Michigan Business Partners, an organization whose credibility depends on trust, referrals and professional reputation.

David is also my brother and my abuser. The person I reported to police for sexually abusing me throughout my childhood.

I have repeatedly offered documentation. I have warned institutions where David later occupied roles involving children, including Heritage Baptist Church and Lansing Christian School. I have now contacted people connected to MMBP’s public Facebook presence.

I am not asking MMBP to decide criminal guilt. I am asking the organization to uphold meaningful standards for the person representing it.

MMBP’s governing leadership should:

1. Formally disclose my abuse and supporting documentation to its governing officers.
2. Arrange an impartial review rather than relying on David, my family or rumors about my mental health and past.
3. Require David to recuse himself and suspend his presidential authority while that review occurs.
4. Tell members and the public what leadership standard it applied and what action it decided to take.

There were years when I was doing everything I could to stay alive. I coped in ways I regret and made choices I would not make today. I have taken responsibility, pursued healing and changed my life.

I can take responsibility for how I survived without accepting responsibility for what was done to me.

My past does not cancel my police report. My trauma does not make documentation disappear. Portraying me as mentally unwell does not relieve anyone of the responsibility to examine the evidence.

This is not an accusation against every MMBP member. It is direct notice to the people responsible for the organization’s leadership, credibility and response.

MMBP now has a choice: conduct a legitimate review or explain publicly why it refused to do so.

You have been informed. What you choose to examine and what you choose to protect will define your organization.

I’m so proud to ride in solidarity with survivors of domestic violence and economic abuse.

To ride in partnership with orsa credit union, led by the indomitable Tansley Stearns.

And to ride in gratitude with the Michigan Coalition To End Domestic and Sexual Violence, with co-directors Chéree Thomas and Merkeb Yohannes.

Survivors: we believe you, we respect you, and we are here for you. ❤️

Hot takes from my tent with the one and only Priya Mann. Thank you Priya for elevating our message to end gender-based violence and domestic abuse!

Thank you JoJo Dries from @onthewingsofangelsnonprofit for connecting us, and for being a forever badass.

Thank you Orsa Credit Union for envisioning, creating, and supporting the Choose The Bear Tour. Orsa is leading the way for financial institutions to show up for women in tangible ways. I’m proud to work with them.

Thank you to the extraordinary network of survivors, frontline workers, and systems workers across Michigan who are doing the gritty, powerful, beautiful work to end gender-based violence and domestic abuse. You are my heroes.

Thank you to Uniting Three Fires Against Violence and the Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence for your work with survivors across the state.
Domestic violence is systemic: it affects people from every background and walk of life. It’s also intertwined with racism, colonialism, homophobia, and the many systems of hierarchy that bind and enforce patriarchal norms. Breaking the cycle means building genuine relationships of care and mutuality. @utfav1 and @mcedsv do this brilliantly.

The bike journey ends today in Detroit. Tomorrow (Tuesday July 21) from 5:30 to 7:30 we’re hosting a public meet and greet at the Kensington Hotel in Ann Arbor. If you’re in the area, please come by and say hi!

I got to meet the extraordinary team at the Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence in Lansing, Michigan. This brilliant group is doing vital work to heal communities across Michigan.

Special thanks to Chéree Thomas, Merkeb Yohannes, Peter Namukowa, and Bailey Harrington for the roundtable discussion. I was riveted by each person’s passion and ability to articulate tangled complexities. I am probably going to spend months, if not years, digesting the nuances of this conversation.

I’ll have a lot more to share about this as time goes on. For now, I’m heading to Detroit for the final miles of this winding ride. The smoke is quite a bit lighter today, so it’s a good time for me to be moving.
