OFFICALLY OPEN | Yesterday the Children's Hospital at Westmead Wattle Building has officially opened, representing a major milestone in paediatric healthcare design in New South Wales. Developed for Health Infrastructure and the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, the 57,000 m² Paediatric Services Building is part of the largest investment in paediatric health in the state in 25 years. At the heart of the design is an activated journey. KidsPark creates a landscaped civic threshold and play space, leading into KidsWay: a light-filled, elevated public pathway that transforms circulation into moments of discovery, respite and connection. Rather than a traditional institutional front door, arrival is shaped through landscape, colour, movement and pause. The design is grounded in the inland river landscape of Westmead, drawing on the convergence of the Parramatta River, Toongabbie Creek and Darling Mills Creek. This narrative informs the building’s facade, interiors, wayfinding and curvilinear forms, creating a distinct identity that connects the hospital to place. Across the project, clinical performance and emotional experience are treated as inseparable. Key design features include single-occupancy patient rooms conceived as bedrooms rather than wards, inpatient units organised as neighbourhoods, multi-purpose family spaces, enhanced access to natural light and landscape, play and discovery zones, a pet visiting area, Indigenous artworks and a Yarning Circle. The project also forms part of a broader Network vision for paediatric healthcare in NSW. Alongside the new Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick and Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Westmead contributes to a connected but place-specific design language for children’s hospitals: one that recognises care as clinical, civic and cultural infrastructure. Diseñado por Mcgregor Coxall [ @mcgregorcoxall ] para Cisneros Real Estate #AldeaTropicalia es un nuevo componente residencial y comunitario de ubicado en Miches, República Dominicana 🇩🇴. El proyecto plantea un modelo de desarrollo basado en el biourbanismo, donde arquitectura, paisaje, naturaleza y comunidad se integran desde la planificación. - Con una extención sobre las 184.3 hectáreas, manteniendo aproximadamente el 70 % del territorio como áreas naturales protegidas. La propuesta organiza una comunidad peatonal alrededor de un núcleo central, conectada por más de 9 kilómetros de senderos y más de 43.000 m2 de espacios abiertos, con parques, jardines y corredores verdes. Aldea Tropicalia es el nuevo componente residencial y comunitario que ampliará el desarrollo Tropicalia en Miches. Impulsado por Cisneros Real Estate, su plan maestro ha sido diseñado por la firma internacional @mcgregorcoxall bajo un enfoque de biourbanismo que plantea una relación directa entre arquitectura, paisaje, naturaleza y comunidad. El proyecto se desarrolla sobre una extensión de 184.3 hectáreas, de las cuales aproximadamente el 70 % se mantendrá como áreas naturales protegidas. La planificación contempla una comunidad peatonal organizada en tres etapas y diez biozonas, articuladas alrededor de un núcleo central de usos mixtos. La propuesta prioriza los recorridos a pie, los espacios abiertos, la vegetación y la conservación de las condiciones naturales existentes. El programa contempla alrededor de 755 residentes, distribuidos entre 95 viviendas unifamiliares, 144 apartamentos y 18 villas, además de un hotel boutique. A esto se suman más de 43,000 metros cuadrados de espacios abiertos y aproximadamente 9.1 kilómetros de senderos, junto con áreas destinadas a educación, cultura, bienestar y actividades comunitarias. El plan maestro incorpora estrategias de ventilación y enfriamiento pasivo, generación de energía mediante cubiertas fotovoltaicas, recolección de agua de lluvia, manejo circular del agua y conservación de especies vegetales nativas. Calles arboladas, parques, jardines y corredores verdes conforman una infraestructura paisajística orientada a reducir el impacto de la urbanización y mantener la continuidad de los sistemas naturales. Ubicada aproximadamente a cinco kilómetros hacia el interior desde Four Seasons Resort and Residences Dominican Republic at Tropicalia, Aldea Tropicalia propone un modelo de desarrollo que conecta la costa con el paisaje interior de Miches y establece la naturaleza como uno de los principales elementos estructurantes de su planificación. #perfilurbanord

Last month, we hosted our annual @worldarchfest Presentation Preparation Evening, bringing Australia’s architecture and design community together ahead of the Festival in Florida. The evening gave WAF award finalists the opportunity to rehearse their presentations in front of experienced WAF judges and an industry audience. WAF Programme Director Paul Finch dialled in from London to open the evening, before presentations from Matthew Todd of @architectusau, Andreas Antoniades of @antoniades_architects and Adrian McGregor of @mcgregorcoxall. Our judges - Ian Moore, Chris Major, Chris Bosse and AJC Director Michael Heenan - shared their insights on the power of a clear narrative, communicating the ideas behind a project and making every minute count. What an incredible evening! 🩵🐬 The inaugural Coastal Design Assembly brought together a generous room of architects, urbanists, students and coastal citizens at the MCA to think together about the places where the city meets the sea. Thank you to the incredible speakers, who shared thoughtful, rigorous and inspiring work: Steven from @chrofi_architects Jo and Shannon from @bangawarra Adrian from @mcgregorcoxall Jessica from @besleyspresser Maya from @floorplanstudio_ and artist @anna_may_kirk It was a real delight to introduce some of my own research on coastal urbanism, and to hear the different responses to the evening’s question: what is one coastal intervention, design or idea you would like to exist, and what would have to change to make it possible? Thank you to everyone who came along and stayed to continue the conversation. The Coastal Design Assembly will be back! Until then, see you on the edge 🌊

Ivanhoe Community Centre & Pool. What makes a good edge to a park? A rhythm of circular columns sits within a landscaped swale, supporting the community garden above. In places, they extend beyond the building, framing entry points to the park and street. Curved balconies above provide a place to stop and look over the park, while shading the pool below.
