Sometimes the loveliest part of welcoming guests is hearing what they take home with them.

The peaceful surroundings, the little personal touches and the simple pleasure of having time to slow down.

We loved receiving these words from Pumeza:

“John’s place was honestly such a gem. The surroundings are absolutely beautiful and so peaceful, exactly what we needed to slow down and just breathe a bit. The space itself is clean, spacious, and really comfortable.

What stood out for me were the thoughtful personal touches, the treats in the fridge and the choccies for the kids were such a lovely surprise and made us feel really welcome.

John was also very friendly and easy to communicate with, which just made the whole experience even smoother.

We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back. Highly recommend.”

Thank you, Pumeza, for such lovely words. We look forward to welcoming you back.

Come stay awhile.

Our guests had a lovely walk with Ouma Gina this morning sharing stories, love for plants and nature. 🌿

Gina has been walking this land for as long as she can remember. First with her Mother, her primary teacher of the plants. Now, with her grandchildren. She wears this landscape like her fingerprints!

For R100 you can experience our living Klein Karoo heritage through her stories. Gina runs her own business “Gina’s Natural Garden’ and can be contacted directly on 079 280 7747 for walks, consultation or fresh produce.

There’s a certain magic to the last light of the day.

When the sun slips through the trees, long shadows stretch across the grass and the Breede River catches the fading light.

Another beautiful day on the farm, asking nothing more than that you stop for a moment and take it all in.

Come stay awhile.

Last evening, McGregor Winery held their annual local function. They showcase the new vintages and releases. Last evening, it was the 2026 Calcrete Chardonnay which I highly recommend: it's unwooded and mineral(ly). Chardonnay is not my favourite cultivar, but this style - only available in our region, with only seven wineries with a 2026 offering - suits my palate.

We were also privileged to get an early (like a whole year early) tasting of the Cape red which will be released this time next year. A blend of Pinotage (40%) and equal amounts of Shiraz and Merlot and on oak for 18 months, bottles four months ago, it was already very drinkable. We shall (im)patiently wait for next year when, wine maker, Prieur du Plessis, assured us, it will be even better. No doubt.

Casual conversation and pizza with beautiful spring skies: McGregor doing what it does best.
