2025 World Master:
Lots of ups and down’s prepping for this long awaited tournament every year…from balancing work and life schedule, training, pushing through injuries, etc. Always grateful to be able to share the mats with those who are hungry for the same thing—to be at the top!
Shoutout to @queixinhobjj @kevencarrascobjj and my training partners @aresbjjgoodyear
Special thanks to @ares_arizona_bjj @paul_nava_bjj
@arespeoriajiujitsuacademy @livioribeiromma_ for the intense comp trainings. To my friends and family near and far for the support and most especially to my number one, since day one @marvin671 ❤️🙏🏽

My first year competing as a black belt, and I came home with a silver medal 🥈 from the World Masters in Las Vegas. It’s hard to put into words what this weekend meant.

I got to watch my sensei take home gold 🥇, cheer on my husband and friends as they tested themselves on the mats, and feel the energy of a community that pushes each other to grow.

My performance wasn’t perfect—but it was progress. I executed techniques we’ve been drilling, felt the pressure, and learned a ton.

And now… I’m fired up to get back to work.
Huge gratitude to my coaches, training partners, and friends at Parabellum. Your support, sweat, and belief in me made this possible. 💛

Here’s to chasing gold, embracing the grind, and showing up with heart.

This is Mike Charfauros @mcharfauros
He grew up on the island of Guam, eventually moving to the mainland U.S. to pursue higher education and better opportunities. Ultimately, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served nine years of active duty service. Mike’s journey started later in life at the age of 40.
Exiting Service, struggling with weight issues, prior injuries, and developing heart conditions, he realized that a change had to be made. Inspired by his wife @sassette_ , and witnessing his daughter Misa, and son @aaromatiic enjoy the benefits of training Jiu Jitsu, he decided to give it a shot.
In November 2023, Mike was awarded a 12 month scholarship via the @wedefyfoundation and started training at @parabellummas where Todd and Holly Angel have created an environment that is diverse, inclusive, and safe to train for all.
Mike trains under the guidance of Dave Frizzell, Frank Rodriguez, @leonayonarulz_bjj , and @brownie_1127 .
His short goal in the Jiu Jitsu circle is to become a We Defy Foundation Ambassador in order to continue serving Veterans coping with Service connected disabilities through jiu jitsu, and making a direct measurable impact in that arena.
After nine months of training Mike’s success and small wins are a testament to the exceptional support from his instructors and countless selfless training partners. Fueled by passion and a newfound love and appreciation for “the gentle art” he continues to learn and hone his skills one day at a time. His optimistic long-term goal is to continue to train jiu jitsu with his wife @sassette_ and family for the rest of his life.
Presently he is a white belt.

So as it turns out… @mcharfauros ended up buying a place in the same town as us! It’s awesome to know we have someone down there who is able to help us if needed and vise versa for him. Pig went on a diet for the move. Can’t wait to get this moving crap over. Talk about stressful.
