My heart breaks a little more as I write this. My Uncle Michael was the closest thing I ever had to an older brother. Whether he was teasing me about him breaking up Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake (yes, I cried about this), holding me upside down by my ankles, or telling me he was going to turn my bunny Fuzzy into rabbit stew…..I still absolutely idolized him.

As a kid, I didn’t understand why he had to leave home and go back to school at the Citadel. As an adult, I became the one leaving, but every holiday, I’d walk into my grandparents’ house, see his smile, and hear, “Hey Ash” as he hugged me. I didn’t know last Christmas was our last. I didn’t know that I’d be left not understanding why he had to leave home again.

While my family and I struggle to comprehend his sudden loss, we know that his memory will forever remain in our hearts, and we find peace in knowing he has been reunited with my Aunt Tammy in heaven. My Uncle Michael was a loving father to his two children, McKayla and Riley, and a cherished son, brother, and friend to so many. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for his family and friends left a lasting mark on all who knew him.

My family and I are raising funds to support McKayla and Riley as they navigate life without their father. For those wishing to contribute to the fund to offer their support, please click the link here (direct link in my bio):

John 14:1-3 (NIV): “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
