POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The ensuites at @__omos are each unique, born from the palettes and circumstances each room presented, being newly established in an old building. Several principles remain at play that were themes throughout the overall interior design from the plaster height @studioloho to the tile pattern @newterracotta. A nod to the building’s Victorian history, skirting, trim, and classical fixtures from @tonicopenhagen were chosen for their intensely handmade quality that is, of course, more rich in person.

Asca Studio designed two versions of the vanities using local Kilkenny limestone as the countertops.
The first is a stained ash base with drawers and chamfered details that are reflected throughout much of the timber in the project, detailed with cast white bronze hardware. The second is a play on the traditional framed vanity, detailed instead with hexagonal legs in brushed stainless steel, fixed to the wall with diamond shaped placards.

Each color story becomes more saturated with the volume of tiles, and in 6 of the suites, tubs crafted in clay by studio loho are positioned for visual and physical relaxation.

One of the largest garden facing ensuites showcases a calming palette of pinks, creams, yellows, and small bits of blue. The organic clay tub from @studioloho overlooks the impressive architecture of the restaurant just across the way.

Where possible, most showers were enclosed as separate rooms. The twist on the classical style is shown here through the use of organically shaped tiles, formally trimmed, while muted plaster walls run up through the ceiling.

A living pallet inspired by the external landscape takes precedence in one of our favorite ensuites we crafted on the second floor. Kilkenny limestone and ash wood vanity is designed by @asca.studio and produced by @holmris_b8 @mckeonstone2

Craft and symbology are often intertwined when we look back on any cultural design language. So, when building the design language for @__omos, we looked to the recurring symbols uncovered in our research and on our travels through the Irish countryside. One such recurring symbol is the diamond, which in turn formed a red thread that permeates throughout the entire project. This simple shape is a nod to old vernacular where decoration often took the form of wooden cut-outs in both furniture and cabinetry. You’ll find this repetition expanded across the project on knobs, millwork, decorative and functional detailing, as well as digital and printed branding.

Welcome to @___omos . A space and mindset we’ve been engrossed in for over three years as the project’s interior architects, resulting in a 16-room guesthouse and 40-seat restaurant led by chef Cúán Greene, set just outside Ireland’s oldest estate town, Abbeyleix.

Brought on as two of the project’s first partners, the project’s interiors, furniture, lighting, and surfaces are as much a part of the final product as the buildings themselves. This, in many parts, thanks to our close collaboration with the @ryanwkennihan team, who has artfully restored the once-dilapidated Victorian house alongside the new build for the contemporary restaurant.

Designed as a complete, immersive experience, the rooms, grounds, and restaurant work together seamlessly, creating a design-led experience from the moment you step onto the property.

There are infinite stories to tell about this project, from history to process and the resulting products, but for now, we’ll leave you with a few images that capture the spirit of Ómós, a Gaelic word meaning homage, duty and respect.

Room for Resonance — and the people who filled it.

Thank you to everyone who came to find us during 3 Days of Design. The smiles, the lingering, the people who came to say hello, it all means something to us and we are so grateful.

We made this presentation as a soft statement about the kind of work that we do: spaces of dwelling, gathering, and hospitality, built with makers whose craft you feel and are inherently drawn to.

A heartfelt thank you to @cuangreene and @rhyajw for joining us for the talk, and to everyone who came to listen and who shared this moment in time with us. Soon you can experience it all in full at @___omos and we couldn’t be more proud.

The exhibition was made in collaboration with @ascastudio and @residentnz, with contributions from partners: @___omos @fortgallery_ @delaespada @konsthantverktyringe @madebychoice @commondwells. We are in awe of the things you’re putting out into the world and for your continued support. A special thank you to @hollyhuntdesign and @apohli_ for completing the space, and to @biddirowley for capturing it.

If something here stayed with you, big or small, we’d love to continue the conversation.

Layers of blue in the @___omos Guesthouse suites, and a rapidly progressing site.

From our first visit to the property that will soon house the @___omos Guesthouse and Restaurant in Abbeyleix, Ireland, we noticed a subtle blue cast to the natural light that filtered through then-empty windows. What could have been perceived as cool and uninviting went on to inform much of our palette and how to work with, not against that light.

Inspiration through the seasons for Suite 05 at the @___omos Guesthouse, opening this July in Abbeyleix, Ireland. Warm, natural tones that emulate the kind of day we're starting to see a lot more of.

Every suite has its unique identity based on the color of the light it receives throughout the day. Each palette is inspired by both the colors of what once was on site, as well as the nature and craft that have always surrounded it. Implemented in curated textures and materials with objects new and old, custom and found.

Many thanks to McKeon Stone for choosing my piece ‘Artefact’ for one of their Sculpture prizes at Sculpture in Context 2025. As you can tell from my smile 😃 I’m delighted! I love this show, it’s the first exhibition that I ever had work selected for back in the early 00’s which gave me the idea that I should stick at this. (😉 he says driving a teenage car)

Thanks to the committee for all their hard work in putting the show together.
Sculpture in Context is at the National Botanic Garden’s and runs from 4 September until 10 October 2025
