Come for dogs, stay for democracy 🐶

Some four-legged friends helped draw a crowd to a campus event designed to help students learn more about the upcoming municipal election.

@hamiltonburlingtonspca therapy dogs Juno, Milo, and Cream were the stars of the show at Dogs for Democracy, an event that’s part of a wider campaign encouraging youth turnout at the polls.

The campaign is tied to a broader research project led by @mcmastersocsci Professor Karen Bird, in partnership with the McMaster Students Union (@msu_mcmaster) and national non-profit New Majority (@votenewmajority).

Students (and all Hamilton, ON residents) have the opportunity to vote now until election day on Monday, Oct. 26.

Not sure who to vote for?

This week, our community gathered to mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

September 30th is a day to reflect on the ongoing legacy of residential schools, honour survivors, and remember the children who never returned home.

A tree planting event, lectures, film screenings and donation drives were just some of the ways our community marked the day.

May these gatherings serve as a reminder of the role we can all play in advancing reconciliation here on campus and in our communities, every day.
