Photos by @meagankng // My love for photography stems from my desire to hold memories close to my heart and as a subtle reminder to always look out for the beautiful moments in life. This past summer, I had the privilege of visiting Sardinia as part of an exchange program and I was so excited to immerse myself in a completely new culture and landscape.

The next three weeks were a dream. Residing in the quaint village of Bessude which has a total of 200 people, we experienced the Sardinian hospitality that we had read all about prior to our departure. As we were graciously allowed to bear witness to the lives that the local individuals had, I made sure to capture moments that captivated my heart.

Photos by @meagankng & @heevashoots // Creating together is a beautiful thing. It’s a partnered dance between individuals, between photographers, between friends. Though some may dream of being perceived as a lone genius, it is when we dare open ourselves up to the talents of others that new dimensions of our own artistry, own identity, can unfold. We started creating together through photography. Both of us joined the club as coordinators in our second year, though it wasn’t until the following year when we started shooting together that our bond first bloomed. Exchanging dresses, sharing lipsticks, and jumping from in front of the lens to behind, we captured each other through our own eyes.

Photos by @meagankng // Just as the ocean seems to be so incomprehensibly vast, my mother’s love is comparable, and if anything, even stronger. After leaving the nest for university, I find myself searching for her as I settle into this new environment. I look for her in the meals I cook for myself, leaning into familiar flavors. Just like the way I’ve learned to add a squeeze of lemon and fish sauce to my vermicelli, how I choose to cook fried rice with extra ginger, just the way she likes it, and wrap dumplings the way she taught me. I look for her in the ocean. A place that provides comfort and reminds me of the days we’ve spent on beaches and taking local ferries to the outer islands in Hong Kong.

Photos by @meagankng // To bare yourself creatively takes courage. But when there are people who show you endless support without fail, it makes it so much easier to just look through that viewfinder and take the shot. To my dear friend Heeva, who has been that safe space for me, I will never be able to fully put into words the gratitude that I have for you. Thank you for letting me continue to explore photography and for being such a beautiful soul that allows me to point my little camera in your direction.
