Y’all, I really do see you. Today I drank two protein shakes back-to-back just to get some fuel in between events, Teach class, do the event, hurry to a video shoot school pickup, creating content, messaging a company about pinkwashing, checking in on two friends in hospice, getting my daughter ready for her first fall dance, picking up my packet for tomorrow’s HYROX competition, preparing for a speech, wondering what the heck we’re having for dinner, and grieving another friend who passed away. And somewhere in the middle of all that, trying to process my own feelings. It’s a weird job we have, isn’t it? 🫠 We spend our days fighting for people, loving people, losing people, and somehow finding the strength to keep showing up. And even on the days when it feels impossibly heavy, we know this is where we’re supposed to be. But I hope we never forget that we’re still human. Still patients ourselves. Still carrying things that don’t disappear just because we’ve learned how to advocate through them. We don’t always have to be the strong ones. We don’t always have to turn our grief into something productive. Sometimes we need someone to show up for us, too. So to my fellow patient advocates, especially during this incredibly loud month of October… I see you. I appreciate you. And I hope you’re finding little moments to take care of yourself in the middle of taking care of the world. 🫶🏾 There’s so many I could tag, but here’s just a few! Let’s talk about the MBC Baddies who aren’t getting enough attention. 💚🩷💙 Today is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, and we need to talk about why Women of Color MUST be part of the conversation. 📍 Black women face higher rates of Stage IV breast cancer at initial diagnosis. 📍 Research has found differences in first-line treatment for Hispanic/Latina women living with certain types of MBC. 📍 Asian women are often grouped together in research, even though their communities and experiences are not all the same. Different experiences. Different barriers. Today, we’re making it clear: Our Black, Latina, Asian, Indigenous, and ALL MBC Baddies deserve a seat at every table where decisions about their lives are being made. Not just today. EVERY DAY. 🎀 She didn’t choose this journey—but she chose what she would do with it. We are honored to welcome Michelle Anderson-Benjamin, MHA, lovingly known as The Fearless Warrior, to Power in Pink as one of our incredible Guest Speakers. 💗 Michelle was diagnosed with Stage I Triple Negative Breast Cancer at just 36 years old. Less than two years later, her diagnosis progressed to metastatic breast cancer. But through everything she has faced, Michelle has made it her mission to turn pain into purpose. As Founder & CEO of The Fearless Warrior Project, LLC, Michelle advocates for cancer warriors by helping them better understand their rights, available resources and clinical trial options—while also addressing something that deserves just as much attention: the mental and emotional weight of the journey.
