POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
OVER 40 MESSAGES. Since speaking at the @impact100_metrodetroit Annual Breakfast earlier this week, I’ve received more than 40 beautiful messages from women who were in that room, filled with overwhelming waves of love, gratitude, tenderness, and humanity. I don’t know that I will ever have the words to explain what these messages mean to my heart. Sharing my story is never, ever easy. No matter how many stages I stand on, how many times I tell it, or how much healing I have done, there is a part of me that has to travel back into some very dark places to bring those experiences into the light. I have to prepare my heart, quiet the world around me, and find a very particular place within myself where I can hold, both the woman I am today, and the girl who endured things no human being ever should. There is a tenderness in it all that will never leave me. When the messages begin arriving afterward, and women trust me with pieces of their own stories, or someone tells me that something I said helped them understand their past, recognize something in their present, or find courage for their future, it reaches a deep place in my soul. Every time I share my story, I am trusting that there is a purpose greater than the pain of telling it, and these messages remind me that there is. Somewhere in that room, someone felt less alone, understood, or found language for something they had carried silently for years. Someone walked away seeing themselves, or someone they love, with a little more compassion. What a sacred privilege it is to be part of someone else’s hope. I wish I could reach through every message and wrap my arms around each of you. I wish you knew how deeply your words have touched me, how much your vulnerability means, and how profoundly grateful I am that you trusted me with your hearts. You are reminding me that healing has this extraordinary way of moving between us, and that sometimes the person sharing the hope, is receiving just as much of it in return. My heart is overflowing; I am moved, and I am so deeply, deeply grateful.💜🩷🦋❤️ Thank you @producerrachelgiordano for this amazing content!

Swipe ⬅️ EMPOWERED MOMS EVENT is a beautiful community created by my dear friend, Dr. Emily Jacobs. Emily’s heart, vision, and leadership continue to inspire me. Emily has created something so special, a space where mothers are encouraged to remember that their dreams and voices matter, and there is still SO much life waiting for them to live and create! The panels were phenomenal, the conversations were meaningful, and getting to reconnect with old friends while making beautiful new connections was so wonderful. One of the most tender parts of today, was having so many women come up to me to share their love for On The Wings Of Angels, tell me how our work has touched their lives, and how deeply they believe in what we’re building. Those moments mean more to me than I could ever adequately put into words. In fact, I cried on the way home from all the love that was shown to me today. Thank you all for coming up to me! Behind every one of those conversations is another reminder of how far love, compassion, and community can reach. Sometimes we’re so busy doing the work that we don’t get to stop and see just how many hearts it’s touching. Today gave me a little glimpse of that, and I am SO grateful. Emily, I am so proud of you and the beautiful movement you’ve created. What a gift you are to us all. When women believe in one another, champion one another, and make room for one another to shine, the ripple effects are extraordinary.❤️🥰🫠🩷💜🫶🏽🙌🏽

KEYNOTING This morning’s Impact100 Metro Detroit Women With Impact Breakfast was so epic. At the end of my Keynote, so many beautiful women came up to me, wanting to share their stories, experiences, and their hearts, and I wish more than anything that I could have stayed and spoken with every single one of them. Those moments meant SO MUCH to me, because when we talk about domestic violence, we are talking about something that has touched so many of our lives! To have women approach me with such tenderness, vulnerability, kindness, and love reminded me why I continue to open the most painful chapters of my life in rooms full of strangers. None of us was ever meant to carry the hard things alone. To Impact100 Metro Detroit, congratulations on the extraordinary impact you continue to make throughout our communities. A very special thank you to Princess Castleberry, who so generously thought of me and recommended me for this opportunity. To Leslie and the rest of the Impact100 Metro Detroit team, thank you for the extraordinary love, thoughtfulness, and intention you poured into making this morning happen. And a huge, heartfelt thank you to Producer Rachel, who has such an incredible gift for capturing the moments that matter. Thank you to all of the board members and friends that were able to attend! To every woman who came up to me afterward, whether we had a few moments together or simply exchanged a hug, please know that I felt your love, and I am carrying it with me. The greatest gift of sharing my story has been discovering how many hearts begin to open when one person is willing to speak. What an absolutely beautiful morning. 🦋❤️

Dinner at Fogo de Chão arrives with a bit of theater. A gaucho chef approaches carrying a skewer of fire-roasted beef, its edges deliciously caramelized from the grill. That sense of discovery is at the heart of Fogo de Chão in Troy – the only Fogo in Michigan – and it begins with a tradition born thousands of miles away. General Manager Saif “Safe” Jamal understands the craft from the inside out. Saif joined Fogo in 2018, starting in the kitchen and learning the restaurant from the butcher block forward. He moved into guest service, studied the front of the house and moved into management. He soon became one of only three members of the Troy team to earn the distinction of Master Gaucho – a recognition requiring mastery of the cuts, butchery, preparation, carving, service and hospitality that define Fogo. If Jamal embodies the craft behind Fogo, Event Sales Manager Michelle Choice is its spirit. Once described by a company executive as “the heart of Fogo,” Michelle brings an irrepressible joy and passion for discovery that makes the experience special. Her appreciation for hospitality began long before Fogo. Raised in Michigan, she initially studied journalism before a college internship at Disney changed her trajectory. There, she discovered the power of hospitality – how seemingly small gestures can transform someone’s experience. Read more about Fogo de Chão and the team behind it in this month’s issue! @fogo Special thank you to the extraordinary photography of Simran Bajwa for helping bring our creative vision to life 📸 @simbaphotography_ Hair and makeup by Becca Haight (@hair.by_bech ) Special thank you to our fabulous guest diners, Cat Toone and Dan Zech (@staltfinancial ) Sarah Frazier (the lady in orange @baenetworks ) and local entrepreneur Matt Dery. #FogoDeChão #citylifestyle #WestBloomfieldCityLifestyle #getinthemagazine

GRIEF AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE RECAP! Wow. Watch this one with your HEART, friends! Leo, @realitytellyourvision , captured the feeling in the room. The tenderness, stillness, listening, tears, and the laughter that somehow belonged right alongside them. The deep breaths, hands reaching for one another, energy in the room, the ambiance, and the feeling that, for a few hours, nobody needed to perform strength. We just got to be human. When I dreamed up Grief and Domestic Violence: The Things We Grieve. What We Lost. What We Found., I wanted to create a room where grief didn’t have to be explained away, hurried through, turned into gratitude, or wrapped up neatly before it was allowed to be witnessed. I wanted us to honor the truth that sometimes we grieve people who are still alive, childhoods we didn’t get to have, families we wished could have been different, years we cannot get back, versions of ourselves we had to leave behind, futures we once imagined, apologies that may never come. And yet, somehow, inside all of that loss, there can still be so much life! Leo overlaid this beautiful recap with part of my opening speech, and hearing those words while watching what unfolded afterward is incredibly emotional for me. I said all along that I wasn’t standing in front of everyone as someone who had mastered grief; I was standing there as someone who needed every bit of that room, too. I needed the wisdom, vulnerability, hugs, laughter, tears, and the reminders. I walked into that room hoping to create something that would hold other people, and it held me, too. That may be the greatest gift this day gave me. Thank you, Leo, for capturing the energy, the humanity and the heart of what happened when a room full of people decided it was safe enough to put some of what they were carrying down for a little while. Thank you @sara_rian_books @eternwayscounselingservices , @jweatherhead , @gotgriefhouse @mividab2 , @laurenedwardstv , and @kmilam23 for your wisdom and guidance from the stage. Thank you @danakaytaucher , @syndicate_ferndale for the food. Thank you @walshcollege for hosting. Thank you to every one of YOU who came with open hearts.💜🩷

SWIPE ⬅️ THERE IS SOMETHING SO SPECIAL about watching someone you love, respect, collaborate with, AND call one of your best friends absolutely CRUSH IT. Today, I got to sit in the audience and watch Michelle Choice speak at the @troychambermi Women’s Forum Event about hospitality, and they couldn’t have chosen a more perfect person for this conversation. Michelle IS hospitality. She is the person who makes you feel like you belong the minute you walk into a room, she notices people, remembers the little things, and she creates spaces where people feel welcomed, cared for, celebrated and seen. It was so special watching as everyone got a glimpse into the incredible history and experience behind the woman I already know and love so much. See, Michelle will NEVER be the person walking around telling you how accomplished she is. She doesn’t brag about the rooms she’s been in, work she’s done, people she’s served, or the incredible career she has built in hospitality. Watching everyone hear pieces of her story today, and realize just how much knowledge, experience and wisdom she carries was SO special. There is something beautiful about getting to clap loudly for your people, sit in the audience, and think, “YES. THAT’S MY GIRL.” Michelle, you were absolutely phenomenal today. I am so proud of you, SO grateful for our friendship, for all the ways we get to work and collaborate together, and SO lucky that life put us in each other’s orbit. Keep taking the mic, baby! Keep sharing what you know, and showing the world what hospitality looks like when it comes from the HEART. What a beautiful bonus to see so many friends, make new ones, hug some beautiful humans, and spend the afternoon surrounded by incredible women through the Troy Chamber. The Women’s Forum continues to be one of my FAVORITE rooms to walk into (thank you to the group’s leadership, especially Sheila and Emma)! Every single time, I walk out more connected, inspired, and more grateful for the women in this community. Today, though, I was especially grateful to be the friend in the audience clapping REALLY, REALLY LOUD. THAT’S MY BESTIE. And she absolutely crushed it.🥰

Grief and Domestic Violence: The Things We Grieve. What We Lost. What We Found. @onthewingsofangelsnonprofit Community Event was beautiful, emotional, grounding, and tender. There were tears, laughter, moments of complete silence, recognition, deep breaths, hugs, hard truths, and so much humanity. For a few hours, we created a space where nobody had to have it all figured out. To our incredible panelists Sara Rian, Julie Weatherhead and MiVida Burrus, thank you for giving us your wisdom, lived experiences, education, vulnerability and your hearts. You gave us words for things so many people have carried silently. To our moderator, Lauren Edwards, thank you for holding this conversation with such tenderness, curiosity and care. To Dr. Aya Rifai and Integritas Wellness Institute, thank you for sponsoring this event, and believing in these conversations. To my sister-in-law Karen Milam of Age Strong with Karen, thank you for reminding us that grief lives in our bodies, too. And for leading us in gentle movements. Thank you to Dana and Syndicate Ferndale for feeding everyone your delicious food, Julie Djurich and Shimmer and Shine Event Design for surrounding us with beautiful flowers, and dessert, Aleks Heide for creating the affirmations and journal spaces on our tables, and Walsh College for giving us such a beautiful space to gather. And Jodi, thank you for this reel and capturing the feeling of a day that was about so much more than what a camera could ever fully capture, while treating the tenderness in that room with so much care. Most of all, thank you to every single person who came, for trusting us enough to share that space. And, thank you ALL for the messages I have received since Thursday. So many of you have reached out to tell me what you felt, learned, what shifted inside of you, what you finally had words for, and how inspired, grounded and seen you felt when you left. We grieved what we lost, we honored what we carry, and, together, we remembered how much we have found. 💜🦋🩷
