Happy National Intern Day! 🥹🤍 I was completely surprised during a practice co-anchor read when CBS 6 Anchor Bill Fitzgerald pulled off the most amazing surprise and the CBS 6 team recognized me for receiving the WMSF Media Fellows Scholarship. Thank you all for making this moment so memorable. This internship is one I’ll never forget, and I’m incredibly grateful for the support, encouragement, and memories I’ve gained throughout this experience! 🎥 P.S. Kimi Johnson, a senior majoring in marketing, earned the Mia Guion Memorial Scholarship at the Media Scholars Case Competition! The competition, hosted by the Washington Media Scholars Foundation in Washington, D.C., challenged students to work directly with Responsibility.org, helping support their goal of mandating their Alcohol101+ program across all South Carolina public institutions. After months of preparation creating a strategic campaign, Kimi's work for the competition culminated in a presentation to a panel of media industry leaders. "I'm incredibly honored to have received the Mia Guion Memorial Scholarship, and I'm grateful for the recognition and support. This experience has strengthened my passion for strategic communications and media, and I'm excited to see where the next opportunity takes me," Kimi reflected.

A few weeks ago, the idea of packing up my life and moving somewhere I’d never been, where I didn’t know a single person, absolutely terrified me. So I’m choosing it anyway. With overwhelming excitement, uncertainty, and faith, I’m beyond excited to announce that I’ll be moving to Knoxville, Tennessee to begin my career with East Tennessee’s News Leader, WBIR. There are so many people I need to thank, but first and foremost, I want to thank the One who made this possible: God. Without Him, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Somehow, every step, every conversation, and every prayer kept leading me here. To Annie Carr, Corey Presley, and the entire WBIR team, thank you for creating an interview process where I felt comfortable enough to simply be myself. Thank you for believing in me and for choosing to invest in my future. I can’t wait to learn from you and become part of the WBIR family. To the Washington Media Scholars program, my WIS family, Carolina News, and every professor at USC who challenged me, encouraged me, and believed in me long before I believed in myself, thank you. Every opportunity, every critique, and every conversation prepared me for this moment. Thank you for believing in an overly anxious girl who doesn’t always know when to stop talking, but has always known she wanted to tell stories that matter. To my parents, my sisters, my family, and my friends, thank you for every prayer, every sacrifice, every word of encouragement, and every reminder that I was capable of more than I could see. This dream started when I was nine years old, and because of all of you, it’s no longer just a dream. Knoxville, I can’t wait to tell your stories, serve your community, and call this city home. This is where it all begins. 🤍

I am filled with immense gratitude by the outcome of @media_scholars week 💓💓 A month ago, I had the opportunity to fly to Washington, D.C. and pitch a political media campaign to help Responsibility.org mandate Alcohol101+ in every public university in South Carolina. Knowing this work could help students make safer decisions around alcohol made this experience feel bigger than a competition—it felt purposeful. I am so honored to have received the Mia Guion Scholarship and to be recognized for her kindness and hard work. And of course, thank you @nathanharthodgson for being the best teammate. Couldn’t have done it without you. 🤍

“God is the only one who can take you through the school of life, and you won’t know what you learned and why until you graduate.” - Pastor Dharius Daniels ( @dhariusdaniels ) I wasn’t going to do a yearly recap, but when I thought about the goodness of God in 2025, I felt Him say I would be remiss! This year is one I will never forget for the rest of my life. God made the most traumatic event in my life my purpose. What a Word! Alopecia is now the thing about me I love most. After I stepped out on my campus with faith, God anointed my head with oil and my cup ran over. I will continue to be obedient and stay right here with God, because, like my boy Peter said, “Where else I would go?” So when you ask, “Why God?” Just know eventually, you will get your answer.
