sooo my med school OSCE results came out 👀
…

guysss this was SO MUCH hard work 😓!! I practised every single day, morning and night, for about a 2ish months for this exam. I really think knowing my pathophysiology inside out (thanks to @medschoolbootcamp 😉) really helped me think on my feet in this exam.

⭐️My study routine for the OSCE was do a history every morning and practice the examinations every night. I did this along side real OSCE cases that I got from friends and from @geekymedics

📝what the OSCE is:
The OSCE (objective structured clinical examination) is a chance to show off your “doctor skills” 😜 . Basically, there are multiple stations, and at each station you get a patient case, and then you walk into the room and either have to take a history from the simulated patients or perform an examination. The examiner/marker is in the room watching your every move 🕵️‍♀️ and then you only have 2 mins to summarise the findings and presented your provisional and differential diagnosis to the examiner.#medstudent #osce #medschool #universitylife #results

my first internet cry! 🥹
…

I never thought I would be able to get 70% or above in a med school exam but here we are!!!
So for CAT 1 (btw CAT=cumulative assessment test) I got 61% (60% is a pass at my med school…so rough!!😢), and then CAT 2 I improved (🥳) and got 69%… and now CAT 3 I got 77.97% 📈…holyyyyyy

I didn’t feel good barely passing CAT 1 because I felt I didn’t really know my stuff… not to be cringe but I have a deep passion for wanting to know my schtuff 🤓 because I want to be at least useful on my GP placement and obvi when I’m a doctor as well 👩🏽‍⚕️💕. I’ve been doing GP work experience and it feels so amazing to know what’s going on and be a helping hand to the doctor.

@medschoolbootcamp prepared me so well for this exam! The GIT content from Dr Roviso was absolutely amazing. I’m so so grateful. And I paired that with the Bootcamp flashcards from the AnKing deck 📝. The secret formula for acing med school is defs med school bootcamp + AnKing 🫶🏽.

Also grateful for my study buddy (my sister lol) @lara.roop 💕💕

I felt way more prepared for this exam than all my other ones!! 🎉 💕I think the secret formula is @medschoolbootcamp + AnKing flashcards. I am now on to the Dermatology block but I’m not finding the AnKing deck as useful as it was for GIT… does anyone have any recommendations? Xx

Also feeling really burnt out (a little 😓) cuz we didn’t get a break after the exam 😭. Btw our exams are called CATs = cumulative assessment test 📝 🌸.

The past 6 weeks in the books 📚🫶

Somehow it feels like I started medical school last week and like I’ve been doing this forever! One of my favorite parts has been noticing small connections between what I’m learning and things I come across in everyday life. We learned about nursemaid’s elbow, and a few days later I saw someone pulling a little kid up by the arm and immediately thought about the anatomy we had just learned. I’ll hear something medical in passing and suddenly have a little more context for it, or finally understand why something I’ve heard about forever happens. It’s really cool how the things you spend your days learning start changing what you notice.

The bigger surprise has been everything outside of school. I probably have less free time than I ever have, and somehow I feel like I’ve been living more of my life, not less. There have been 12-hour study days, a LOT of Anki, practicing clinical skills on each other, and exams I walked out of questioning everything I’d ever learned, but also trips, the gym, friends, dinners, late nights, and a lot of very normal moments I’m really glad I made time for!

I think I always assumed that when life got really busy, I’d put everything else on hold until things calmed down. But “when things calm down” is probably always going to be a moving target. There will always be another exam, deadline, or reason that later would be more convenient. Maybe the point isn’t to build your life around the empty spaces in your schedule, but to make sure the things that make you feel like yourself still have a place when the schedule gets full.

Six weeks is a very small beginning, but I’m incredibly grateful that this is what I get to spend my days doing (and for the people willing to teach me, learn alongside me, and support me through it!!) I hope getting to do something I care this much about never starts to feel ordinary 🥹🤍

5 things I NEVER do as an MS2 🩺

1. Take traditional notes
Too time-consuming. Instead I annotate directly into school slides and Step/Pathoma.

2. Just throw things into ChatGPT
If I use AI to study, I upload my Step book so it pulls from the actual resource and keeps things high-yield. You can have it pull up the information for you or what page to find it.

3. Use too many resources
Too many resources = too much noise. I stick to a few that work for me and actually finish them. Pick one for content, one for review, and one for repetition.
Ex: Bootcamp→ Pathoma/Step book → UWorld

4. Use Anki as my main study method
Hot take 🫣 I’d rather focus on practice questions + understanding than memorizing cards.

5. Neglect self-care
Movement is a crucial part of my routine. Sometimes a walk with a podcast or UWorld audio book (available as an add on) is all you need.

These are just what work for ME. Med school is about figuring out how your own brain learns best. 🤍
