Behind every frame is a story I’ll never forget. Creating PEACEMAKERS was my first experience making a fictional documentary, and one of the most rewarding creative challenges I’ve ever taken on. What you see on screen is the result of weeks of writing, filming, editing, questioning, and starting over.
Thank you to every actor, crew member, collaborator and friend who believed in this project and helped bring it to life. I’m deeply grateful.
This is more than my first film. It marks the beginning of a new chapter in the way I want to tell stories.

LOST x Atlas Aesthetics presents an evening of North African short films at @lostclubnight around the theme of reclamation - exploring memory, friendship, ritual, womanhood, belonging, and self-representation across North Africa and its diasporas.

Bringing together works by @sarraryma , @medsuleiman , @jameelaelfaki, @kenoozaaa , @basmakhalifa, @zeinaaref, @ghalia.kriaa, @zeeeeeea, @tareklakhrissi, and @dar_elias, the programme departs with Air Kasbah, and moves between Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Sudan, and diasporic spaces beyond the Mediterranean.

From intimate domestic moments to allegorical worlds, the films reflect on what it means to reclaim images, stories, and emotional realities too often absent from mainstream narratives surrounding the region.

THE STORY OF A LITTLE SPIDER | 250D 16MM

« The Story of a Little Spider is a very personal short film. It’s a tribute to my mother, and more broadly to women who have had to reshape or set aside their dreams because of the expectations placed upon them.

I chose to shoot this short film on 16mm because its texture and fragility felt deeply connected to the emotional intimacy of the story. More generally, the themes I explore are timeless, stories that transcend generations and continue to resonate across time. This is why I am deeply drawn to shooting on film. It allows these stories to exist beyond a specific era, as if they could travel from one generation to another. » - Director @medsuleiman
