Then in 2012, as a Corporal, he received an NJP for two counts of assault, drunk and disorderly conduct, and communicating a threat.

Demetrius Thigpen grew up on the east side of Detroit in a single parent household. He joined the Marine Corps thinking a new environment would change his life but the mindset he grew up with followed him.

His career could’ve ended there.

But two Marines chose to invest in him and eventually, he made the decision to change.

Over 16 years later, he’s a Gunnery Sergeant leading and developing Marines.

His story is proof that your past can explain who you were… but it doesn’t have to decide who you become.
