“I have to go back to my roots in terms of following my instinct. We did a lot of trial and error when we first opened 14,15 years ago. At one point, I said, ‘Stop! You need to be true to yourself!’ “

For Garde, we bring together natural materials, organic forms, earthy tones, rich colors, and tactile textures, creating a layered dialogue between the objects and furniture we select. Each piece contributes its own material presence and character, while together they form a warm, considered environment that reflects the distinct curatorial sensibility of #GARDE.

“There are some beautiful, beautiful things. I just looked at something the other day and I said, this is so pretty but it’s just... it’s not Garde. You know, it’s not going to work here because I also know what my customers gravitate to Garde for, and it’s a certain softness or earthiness or organic, or at times monochromatic. So you kind of know when somebody presents something to you and you say, ‘Oh, yeah, that’s GARDE!’"

“I always tell my interior designers, clients who come in ‘Don’t like to decorate’ – I almost don’t like the word. Because it has to feel like your soul. […] So many people who’ve come into our galleries say ‘Oh my god, I can live here’. That makes me feel good.”

My great love is of good architecture. Without it, you don't have good interiors. I trained as an architect first, so I think of a house as one long decision instead of two separate scopes. The architecture is the vessel, the interiors are what fills it. When those two things get made by different people who never talk to each other, you can feel the seam. On this house, I got to do both, so there isn't one.
