Down With The Shipmans by @megmitchellmoore

As the oldest of three sisters, I love a good sister story and the youngest in this one even has the same name as my youngest sister, Mae! So of course I had to get it for her birthday this summer and then read it myself.

The Shipman sisters are brought together by their Dad to meet at their beloved NH beach house for the first time since their mom’s passing. They think they are there for a family reunion but when they arrive, their Dad tells them that they need to sell the house. Each sister has her own personal struggles that they are dealing with and this news puts them all over the edge.

The rest of the novel focuses on the three sisters reconnecting with one another and their Dad, while also trying to connect with his new wife. I loved the relationships and sister dynamic as well as the New England setting. This was a great end of summer read for me and I would definitely recommend it!

💗 Where are you in your sibling line up? OR What is your favorite beach spot?

Great meeting on Tuesday!! Our speaker was local author Meg Mitchell Moore. Meg is the author of 10 best seller books, one which is set in Newburyport! ( Two Truths and a Lie). She spoke about her writing process, the journey about how she became an author, and she answered a lot of questions.

Among her novels are national bestsellers, Indie Next picks, and a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers pick. She has a B.A. in English from Providence College and a master’s degree in English Literature from New York University. 🍁 It was an epic month! Here’s my September wrap up!

📖Read:
📙Falling for Peachtree Bluff by @kristywharvey: a heartwarming story about family, community, & especially sisterhood. It’s giving ALL the fall vibes!
📗Girl Dinner by @olivieblake: I knew this book was about a sorority house that had some secrets, but I didn’t see the biggest secret coming! It’s a dark commentary on what it means to be a woman today. Warning, there are some gruesome moments, but it is very well written & thought provoking.
📕The Admissions by @megmitchellmoore: I am a huge Meg Mitchell Moore fan & I thought I had read all of her books, but somehow I missed this one. I absolutely could not put it down! It’s centered around a family dealing with the stress of raising children, the college admissions process, & the stresses of life in general. It is witty, gripping, & completely relatable.
📘How to Write a Love Story by @catwalshwriter: The daughter of an author is tasked with writing the final book in her father’s series after he passes away. She is an author herself, but is having a terrible case of writer’s block - enter the handsome editor from NY. This is a fun romance filled with charming, funny characters & set in a small village in Ireland. I fell for this one!

📺Watched:
😍Bridgerton Season 4: I was late to watch this season, but as usual I couldn’t stop watching once I started. I can’t wait for the next season!
🗡️The Traitors New Blood: I am such a fan of every season of this show, & I am LOVING watching @morganevelyncook navigate the treachery that abounds! If you do not follow her, you should.
🚣Crew Girl: I’m only a couple of episodes in, but think Oxford Blues meets The Summer I Turned Pretty!
⚽️Ted Lasso: This show just makes me happy!

❤️Moments: Saw Celine Dion on her opening night in Paris!!! What an amazing, inspirational, unparalleled talent! Paris was magical. Lots of time for strolling, shopping, reading in beautiful spaces, wandering through museums, & eating at fantastic restaurants. Before Paris, we spent a couple of days in NYC & saw Ana Gasteyer’s final performance in Schmigadoon! Got my Playbill autographed after! If you’re in NY, go see this show!

Sharing my September Reads. Apparently I’m officially in my audiobook era. Only two books this month were read with my eyes - the rest were audiobooks!

September has been another busy month! I can’t believe that at the beginning of this month we were still on vacation - it feels forever ago. Since then, my kids have started school and all their activities, we celebrated Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), and are now in the middle of Sukkot, and we had my son’s birthday party. Somehow, it all happened in one month!

I’ve been loving going through some backlist books lately along with some great 2026 releases. I’m looking forward to seeing what October brings.

❓Have you read any of these? What was your favourite book in September?

Meg Mitchell Moore Author Ranking

I actually heard about this author through Elin Hilderbrand’s instagram account yearsssss ago and I have enjoyed reading all of her books.

Here is my ranking of her books:
1. The Islanders- three strangers, one island, and a season packed with unexpected romance, well-meaning lies, and damaging secrets.
2. Vacationland-a woman visits her parents’ house in Maine this summer with her three kids, a barely written book that has a looming deadline, and a trunkful of resentment.
3. Two Truths and a Lie-happiness isn’t always a day at the beach, some secrets aren’t meant to be shared, and the most precious things are the people we love.
4. Captain’s Daughter-a woman who returns to her hometown in coastal Maine and finds herself wondering what’s next.
5. Down with the Shipmans-family drama with three sisters, some very charismatic dogs, and a glorious setting. captivating family saga set by the sea.
6.The Admissions- a novel that perfectly captures the mania of the college admissions process as a seemingly perfect family.
7. Summer Stage-summer novel following a family of actors grappling with fame, scandal, and ambition.
8. Mansion Beach-explores the depth of human relationships, our cruelly classist society, and the price of secrets that refuse to stay buried.

Have you read this author??

Thank you to @emilybookedup for the #authorranking inspo!!!
