München ist aktuell DER Treffpunkt für zeitgenössische Kunst: Das 38. OPEN ART MUNICH Gallery Weekend beginnt!

THE NEW WUNDERKAMMER.

Munich is currently THE place to be for contemporary art: The 38th OPEN ART MUNICH Gallery Weekend is kicking off!

We’ll be open until 9 p.m. on Friday evening.

You can also experience THE NEW WUNDERKAMMER on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Featuring works by Petra Schott, Miriam Steinberg, Mela Diamant, and Thomas Räpke.

The exhibition itself becomes a movement: from the right-hand room, with its beauty and latent threat, through the left-hand room, where color and painting regain hope, to the rear section, where perception opens up again.

In the end, a white room remains. A whale hangs from black ropes. Metal can look like a weapon. Venus needs a break. And yet, the images still shine. THE NEW WUNDERKAMMER.

NEW WUNDERKAMMER – curator Carsten Lehmann at the exhibition opening. The historical Wunderkammer of the Renaissance and Baroque periods sought to bring the world together in miniature: nature, art, science, the exotic, and the inexplicable stood side by side. It was an expression of curiosity and knowledge, but also of power and the European claim to be able to collect and organize the world.

NEW WUNDERKAMMER does not adopt this historical order, but rather the sense of wonder. We are exhibiting installations, paintings, photographs, and sculptures by MELA DIAMANT, PETRA SCHOTT, MIRIAM STEINBERG, and THOMAS RÄPKE.

The exhibition thus does not simply juxtapose dark and light, good and evil, crisis and redemption. It describes a movement. Hope here is not a starting point, but something that must be restored. Perhaps that is where its political significance lies.

The cabinet of curiosities as a time capsule.
