Happy Wednesday. This is from the @melbournetapstudio in Australia. We hear it all the time: “I’ve got no rhythm, I could never learn to tap dance.” If you’ve ever found yourself saying this, you should know one thing. You might not have any rhythm, but it doesn’t mean you can’t learn it. Bill Robinson didn’t have any rhythm when he got started as a child. He eventually became one of the best ever. Same with Jeni Le Gon. John Bubbles. The @nicholasbrothers. Savion Glover. The list goes on. You’re not born with rhythm. That’s impossible. It’s something you study and learn, over a lot of tireless hours over a lot of years. It takes training, practice, dedication, discipline, sacrifice, and patience. It’ll come to you; you just have to keep working at it. Also take lots of classes. There are many great teachers you can learn from. Go to tap workshops and tap festivals. Learn as much as you can, from as many people as you can. It also goes without saying; yes, it’s hard work. But don’t make it feel like work. Have a lot of fun with it. Collaborate with other tap dancers. Get with your friends and create something. Start tap companies. Put on performances. I started fourteen years ago, when I was 24. I will never be confused with or compared to Savion or Jason Samuels Smith, that’s for sure. And I don’t want to be. But once you get started, you’re on a path to learning the rhythm you keep saying you don’t have. Take it from me. Moral of the story? Keep searching. Keep seeking. Keep knocking. Keep learning. Keep working. Keep building. Eventually, you will find that rhythm; it just takes time. Don’t give up on yourself, and like the Lacuna Coil song says, let nothing stand in your way. #tapcommunity #tapdance #tapdancers #tapdancer #tapdancing Repost from @melbournetapstudio “I’ve got no rhythm, I could never learn to tap dance”. I hear this all the time. Most people who say this just haven’t been taught how to find it yet.

Did you know that my tap teachers from when I was at VCASS (Isabelle taught me and @bronjol, Megan taught everyone else who could actually tap 😂) - also run adult tap classes at Dance Fac? They pretty much are there at the same time I am for my classes. My mum does Megan’s beginner tap class after my beginner ballet class on Saturdays. And I know a few others of my students are interested in joining! 💃🏾🕺🏽

Are you someone that wants specialised programming but doesn’t necessarily need the personal attention of a one-to-one environment? Then small group sessions are for you! Small group sessions offer the individualised approach to your needs, goals and obstacles whilst also creating a space for you to self-govern your movement and problem solve. PLUS, small group sessions provide wonderful opportunities to get to know new people and engage with your local community. I’d love to hear from you. DM me to book a discovery call. Let’s chat. Let’s move. 😘

Isabelle 💗 Ran into one of my VCASS teachers from nearly 20 years ago today at Dance Factory! Isabelle also hires a studio at Dance Factory on Saturdays to teach tap dancing to adults 🥺 I told her how I used to fake my ‘wings’ during the VCASS performances because I couldn’t do them. 😂
