The song is what you sing. The riddim is what makes you move. 🎶

I went digging for one bassline and followed it back to Studio One, 1968; still holding up songs 50 years later. That’s the whole reason I started this series.

Chapter One is live. Read it at DJKingJewelz.com (link in bio), then tell me: what’s the first riddim that ever clicked for you? 👇

3 days to the Roots & Riddim Festival. 👑

This project started in a place that’s familiar to every DJ.

Looking for inspiration.

Part of it came from preparing for Roots & Riddim Festival on July 4, 2026 with the good people at @yardievibez . Part of it came from the mixtapes I’ve been putting together, searching for sounds that connect in ways you don’t always notice at first.

So I started digging in the crates…well, my Serato folders. 😏

The deeper I went, the more I kept coming back to the same songs. The same riddims. The ones that somehow command the same attention, the same excitement, every single time they’re played.

What struck me wasn’t just how good they were.

It was how much they had shaped the music we know today without most people ever realizing it.

Some of those finds are staying in the group chat for now. 😂

But I knew I had to start somewhere.

So I decided to explore the riddims that left an undeniable mark; not just the biggest hits, but the foundations that changed the sound and continue to echo through reggae, dancehall, soca, Afrobeats, and beyond.

That’s how The Riddims That Changed the Sound was born.

The first blog is now live on DJKingJewelz.com. https://www.djkingjewelz.com/the-riddims-that-changed-the-sound

I’d love for you to give it a read and let me know what memories it brings back or what you hear differently the next time one of these riddims drops.

Big love to Connie & Kevry this project found the perfect starting point through Roots & Riddim.

Give thanks to everyone who contributed, shared their knowledge, and supported the movement.

And a special shoutout to my associate editors…. One Alexandra pan de app. Liv+Alex ❤️

Something is coming. 👑

For years we’ve chased one question on the dance floor: where does the riddim really come from? Not the song. Not the artist. Something deeper than that.

Tomorrow we start following the thread. Roots reggae. Dancehall. Soca. Afrobeats. The riddims that changed the sound, and the story that ties them all together.

New series begins tomorrow June 28,2026. The festival lands Saturday, July 4, 2026

Follow now so you don’t miss the first drop. 🎶 The journey continues.

More footage from last year (hope the Aunties don't fight me 🥴)

Pray for me y'all, I've been WILD sick the last 4 days, but I WILL be MUCH better in time for the backpack project 🙏🏾
------------------------------------------------------------
One of my favorite things we put in the backpacks is the 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀.

Think about it… when was the last time someone experiencing homelessness received a card?
So many of our unhoused neighbors are used to being overlooked, rushed past, or ignored.

It’s a reminder that 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻.
That your story is 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻.
That you 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿.

Yes, we load these backpacks with as many resources as we can.
But that card? To me, it’s the 𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗸𝗲.

It’s a small message from us.
A gentle message from God.
A prayer that hopefully you won’t need a backpack next year; but even if you do, we’ll still be here.

When the snacks run out…
When the socks are worn down…
My hope is that they can hold on to that card.
As a reminder.
As a spark of hope.
As hope that things 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲.
-------------------------------------------------------------‐-----

We’re just a 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 from Backpack Project Day, and it’s 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 to contribute.

Thank you so much to everyone who has already given — through 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗵, 𝗭𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Even though GoFundMe hasn’t been the main avenue this year, every single contribution has mattered deeply.

We still have more to purchase before 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟭𝘀𝘁, so if you’re able — 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Thank you for helping us remind people that they are 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻, 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻. 💛
