picked another sweet face from the comments/followers ( @melissaclick.ok ) and turned it into a quick 5-minute sketch. 🐾✏️🤍

I’m loving this little series so much. Every pet has such a different personality, and it’s so fun trying to capture that with just a pencil and a few minutes.

📸 Comment a photo of your dog or cat below… your pet may be the next one I sketch! Make sure you’re following me so I can tag and contact you if I choose yours. 🤍

Who should I draw next?

You will never, ever find me downplaying my love for my daughter Evangeline. Her very name means good news & it fits her to a T. She’s more joyful than me, more beautiful than I could have ever imagined, she’s only 2 and she’s smart as a tack. She will come up against plenty of resistance, so let me be her biggest fan and her biggest cheerleader. Let me spoil her with admiration. Let me correct her when she’s wrong (which, btw is often) but let me never grow tired of being amazed by her. This past year she’s been my buddy, my unofficial assistant, my constant. Things looked really different in January—the world at large and the world in our home. She has a new house, a new baby brother, she’s been in and then out of school again, social distancing since March. We miss our friends and family. And yet, every night she wants to dance in the kitchen and shrieks with laughter as long as we’ll let the whole scene go on. She doesn’t seem to mind our Groundhog Day life. She’s always finding different ways to play and entertain herself. She learns something new every day and I have a front row seat. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows—sometimes I lose my everloving mind. But she is just so precious and dear, even in her disobedience and inexplicable mess. I will never stop being dazzled by her. Our kids need our admiration and attention so much more than any material thing, and I’m so looking forward to a few restful weeks at the end of this year to give her undivided time & soak up all her joy. ❤️ 📷 by @melissaclickphotography

With a heap of new friends from this bustling launch week, I wanted to say hello! 👋🏽 I’m Alex, the hand-letterer behind this account.⁣

I’m a West Coast native but have chosen Tulsa, OK as my home. I accepted a job at @teachforamerica in 2013, which brought me here sight unseen. I was teaching English in Brooklyn and the time, and once I got a slice of small city life, I moved here full-time & haven’t left.⁣

My business started as a hobby! I am a recovering workaholic 🙃 and my manager urged me to do something for myself outside of work. I started selling lettered rubber stamps on Etsy, and that turned into envelope addressing and bridesmaid cards, of all things! Within about a year and a half, I left my job at TFA to pursue lettering full time. It was a huge & crazy risk.

From 2016-2019, I taught lettering workshops all over, designed about a gazillion wedding invitation suites and shared a really fun storefront with my buddy @merrittwakefield. I also got married to my best friend in that season. I packed up a wedding invitation order the morning of my wedding rehearsal—and another the day I gave birth to my daughter—so that kinda tells you about my hustle orientation. Always working on it. 😉

When I became a mom, the wedding world was no longer a good fit, so I designed a virtual lettering course, kept teaching in-person, and hopped back to paper products. I now offer greeting card sets, art prints, and personalized items. My daughter Evangeline is 2 and my son Holden is 6 months, and I adore them.⁣

About 2 years ago, I was introduced to Usborne Books & More. I am a part of a wonderful team in that space and it’s my happy outlet. You can learn more about that at @bookswiththebrays!

I wouldn’t say I have a ton of “hobbies” in 2020 😆 but I love to read, love to study, love to meal prep, love budgeting and doing math in my head, and travel/date nights/girls nights are what I miss the most. I became a Christian at age 26 and that’s a crazy story. 🤣 I’m an INFJ, an enneagram 2 with a HEAVY 3 wing, and I 100% can’t sit still.⁣

Tell me about you! What do we have in common? 🙂
