A wonderful Mahler 2 section to conclude this year’s NACO Mentorship Programme! My first ever Mahler 2!! We were grateful to welcome Kira Shiner back into the section as an alum when Aaron Haettenschwiller had to miss this week for a nice opportunity! Melissa Scott was our beautiful EH soloist to wrap up a great year with us. Tai Yokomori is headed for big things next season and was a wonderful partner! #nacomentorship #oboe #oboist #oboes #mentorshipprogram

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Our musicians are passionate about engaging with our community members, young and old! Pictured in the first slide is our woodwind quintet, Kevin O'Donnell, flute; Barbara Hankins, clarinet; Deborah Stroh, horn; Kevin Harris, bassoon; and Melissa Scott, oboe, performing for students at Laurel Heights Secondary School. In the second slide, Barbara Hankins teaches a lesson to a young Laurel Heights clarinetist.

DID YOU KNOW: as our new Board focuses on rebuilding our organization, all community outreach initiatives are musician led and organized - it has always been a priority for us to serve our community and we are committed to continuing those efforts. Thank you to principal bassist Ian Whitman for his volunteer work as Community Outreach Coordinator, and thanks as well to our union @226coma for their help with funding, and all of the musicians organizing programs and presentations!

A whirlwind weekend with @london_symphonia of amazing music highlighted by the gift of playing Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi and Dvorak’s 8th with so many of my favourite people/colleagues and premiering Scott Good’s Lasker-Schuler Songs with my friend and ⭐️ soprano @its_midori_marsh, under the leadership of Maestro @taniamillerconductor. It was also this family’s first time back on stage as a trio - we feel incredibly grateful to have been received into such a supportive and welcoming environment by everyone in the orchestra and @london_symphonia ‘s management team ❤️ Special shout out to my incredible partner @danmorphy for all his love and encouragement leading up to this program and through the week - I couldn’t have done this without you - and Aven’s amazing Aunt Sam for caring for our little one while we were on stage.

Twas another great week with the @torontosymphony !!!

It was a thrill to get to join the TSO again, and I had a special opportunity to bring out a few of my high school students for Thursday's concert. They get enough of me from each week, but they were blown away by @jamesehnes and moved by the orchestra and solos by @sarahjeffreyoboe and Neil Deland 📯

I'm grateful to get to work with @gustavo.gimeno and these amazing @tsomusicians - and even bumping into my wonderful @thedanschool colleague @melissaoboe!!! I'm also thankful for my family and friends that came out on various nights to support me and the orchestra

Getting ready to head back to Kingston shortly, but it was such a delight to get to dance and sing again at @roythomsonhall - until next time!
