Reproductive freedom. Women’s lives. Our daughters’ futures. We cannot afford to sit this fight out!

I attended a powerful community conversation on reproductive freedom and maternal mortality in Georgia with EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler and Attorney General candidate Tanya Miller, moderated by Melita Easters, Founder and Executive Director of Georgia WIN List.

Georgia’s six-week abortion ban puts women’s health and lives at risk. It forces women, doctors, and midwives to navigate complex, deeply personal medical situations under the threat of legal consequences. Pregnancy is not one-size-fits-all. These decisions belong to women, their families, and their doctors—not politicians.

It is imperative to elect Tanya Miller to work to repeal Georgia’s six-week abortion ban. Her opponent has publicly committed to eliminating the rape and incest exceptions and expanding abortion restrictions nationwide. That is the choice Georgia faces.

Georgia WIN List and EMILYs List have endorsed candidates committed to restoring reproductive freedom. I am proud to stand together.

The Georgia Women's Legislative Caucus hosted our bi-annual retreat in Jekyll Island. This year I worked with my colleagues to host two panel discussions about Women's Reproductive Health.

Session #1: Advocating for HER Reproductive Rights Legal Updates
Since Georgia’s HB 481 went into effect in 2019, we’ve seen the devastating impact this abortion ban is having on our women and families in Georgia. During this session, we heard from experts about the current and pending legal cases, the impact of conferring legal rights and protections on an embryo or fetus, and how how this type of law is being applied in a healthcare setting but also in the regulation of fertility treatment, Advanced Directives, the potential criminalization of pregnancy complications like stillbirth and miscarriage, and other important issues impacting women’s access to quality, reproductive healthcare at all stages and phases of our lives.

Session #2: Helping HER Debunk Myths & Embrace Facts
Women’s reproductive health is a topic often surrounded by misconceptions, myths, and falsehoods which can lead to misunderstandings and misinformation. Even more dangerous, misinformation about reproductive health threatens to harm health outcomes, compromise medical trust, and enable misinformed policy restrictions. It’s crucial to separate fact from fiction to empower women (and men!) to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. In this session, we debunked common myths and highlighted important facts related to women’s health.

We have much work ahead to improve women's access to healthcare and that's why I am a proud co-sponsor of Representative Shea Roberts’ Reproductive Freedom Act: https://bit.ly/ReproFreedomAct

Breaking barriers and building legacies! 🌟 This past Monday, the “Celebrate Winning Women” Georgia Win List event brought together trailblazers and changemakers to honor the remarkable achievements of women in leadership. With Mayor Andre Dickens leading the celebration, we applauded Senator Gloria Butler’s inspiring journey alongside host Senator Sonya Halpern. Together, we underscore the vital mission to elect more women at all levels of government, paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future.

Join us in championing these incredible leaders and discover how you can make a difference in your community. ✨www.TheMalbrueGroup.com #TheMalbrueGroup #winning #winningwomen #leadership #lead #leader #trailblazers

October 12, 2024. When I wrote this date down over two years ago, I was trying to imagine where our country would be two years post-Roe. I was trying to keep it within the realm of possibility, not extremist or paranoid.

From the death penalty to state-mandated period tracking apps, from tattle-tale systems that can earn people money and turn family members on one another to making it impossible for pregnant women to cross state lines— none of it seemed implausible. It actually seemed scarily plausible. So much so that people who have seen the film aren’t sure what is true and what is fiction.

And the closer we got to October 12, 2024, the closer we got to the reality of the film. The lines between the two started to blur. People would send me articles, screenshots, etc: “LOOK!! Omg just like what happened in your film!!”

And when project 2025 was released, I realized that I wasn’t too extreme at all. I was right on the money, just a few months too early.

Watch the 18 min movie (link in bio) and ask yourself: couldddd this happen? Would I want to live in a world like this? And then VOTE.

I implore you all to get out and #vote like your lives depend on it. Because if you are a woman or you love a woman, they do.

(Here are pics from the premiere in January… my b. But not too L8?)

From empowering the next class of Georgia women legislators to hopefully inspiring young girls who will be our future leaders.... know that YOU can do it. You can lead, you can inspire, you can empower. Women are stronger together, and together we can create a Georgia that is prosperous, compassionate, inclusive, and something to be proud of! We have the power to change the world for the better.

It was a packed house at the #georgiastrategysummit2023 today. Kudos to @georgiaalliance for putting on an incredible program, bringing together inspirational voices, to help us gain the strength to do the work that needs to be done. “It is hard work, but is heart work” (to quote the inimical @deborahstandsup, who I could listen to all day long).

During these difficult days, I was grateful to join Georgia WIN List at The Carter Center for an evening with Heather Cox Richardson, historian and author of the daily newsletter LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN and a new book, Democracy Awakening: Notes on the State of America.

Listening to Heather talk was as inspiring and reassuring as reading her newsletter. Whip-smart, practical, funny and truly optimistic about the future of democracy-she did what amazing teachers do, she told stories of the past that help us see a hopeful tomorrow. Gracious Melita Easters hosted the thoughtful interview and included questions from Georgians watching online in addition to the full house at The Carter Center. Thank you @gawinlist @heathercoxrichardson @thecartercenter

I left lifted up with warmth and renewed energy to continue with our shared work to protect and strengthen our democracy.
