“I’m famous. I’m in all the papers.”

And that’s curtains for the Young Woman.

Cheers to this incredible cast and crew for making this production come to life. An almost two month run, fantastic reviews from the press and a team that became a family- my goodness, I love the theatre.

Congratulations, @geldofgodot for finally being able to bring this play to life- one you’ve been wanting to bring to the stage for so long. It has been an honour to be part of the production that brought José Rivera’s magical world to the Atwater Village Theatre.

And a standing ovation to the entire cast, but especially to @jadesantanacortes. Watching you work and bring Marisol to life has been nothing short of incredible. You’re a star, babe.

What a joy it’s been to apart of this production. Congratulations to everyone in the @openfisttheatrecompany. Honoured to be apart of the family.

Onto the next 🙏🏼

Where is the moon? 🌑

A dreamlike blend of magical realism, Theatre of the Absurd and Rivera’s powerfully poetic language, Marisol is a darkly funny, apocalyptic fable about survival, faith and hope. After her guardian angel abandons her to join the celestial battle against a senile God, Bronx resident Marisol Pérez must navigate a terrifying, unraveling world on her own while struggling to preserve her humanity.

So proud of this incredible group of actors for completing the Fundamental Intensive! ☺️❤️

Over these four weeks, we worked on so much of what can get in the way of feeling free and available in an audition.

We strengthened the imagination muscle and learned how to create the world of the story instead of relying only on personal substitution. We worked on starting the conversation as a living, thinking, breathing human being not letting the pressure of the audition take over.

There was so much growth in learning to listen, respond truthfully, and stop trying to manufacture an “actor choice” just for the sake of doing something interesting. The goal is always to make the work feel more human, more specific, and more alive. Each of them took on this challenge with determination. I could see the results of becoming believable within their storytelling with each class. Inspiring!

Keep building on what you started here. I’m so proud of you all! 👍☺️❤️

“PICARESQUE… theatrical street sense, savage imagery and Puerto Rican-inflected magical realism… what’s most satisfying about this reencounter with ‘Marisol’ is seeing a new generation embrace the play’s kinetic freedom.” — Charles McNulty, Los Angeles Times
