Most design conversations are about what worked. Ours wasn’t.

“Setback to Success: How to Redesign Failure” brought interior designers Christina Kim and Aamir Khandwala together with STARK CEO, Chad Stark, to discuss the projects that didn’t go to plan and how they turned regret into experience.

This was our first panel in the new showroom at the New York Design Center, where STARK and Fort Street Studio are now on view together.

Some projects hum underneath everything else, like they were always there, waiting until the time is right to wake you up. You carry them quietly for a long time, and then one night they belong to a room full of people, and become something else.

A seemingly simple men’s dressing room reads as classic at first glance, but sharpens into something far more compelling as the eye lingers. Each element curated by Manhattan-based designer Patrick McGrath (@mrmcgrath)—John Currin etchings from @gagosian, an 18th-century carved daybed from @christiesinc, several @maisongerard antiques—rewards attention with ever-more enchanting details revealing themselves over time.

The same magic carries through to the floor. Flatwoven in Thai silk, Oracle’s low-contrast field features a densely packed, multicolored geometry that flickers in and out with the shifting light, its pattern registering gradually rather than all at once.
