💃🏽✨ THE NEXT GENERATION OF JOHANNESBURG DANCERS IS TAKING THE STAGE.

What happens when young people are given the opportunity to move, create, collaborate and perform in a professional theatre?

Joburg Moves Junior. 🎭🔥

Making its debut on 22 September 2026, the new festival from UJ Arts & Culture, in partnership with Moving into Dance (MID), is giving Grade 4 to 6 learners the chance to experience high-quality dance training and step onto a professional stage.

Five schools are taking part:

✨ Greenside Primary School
✨ Melpark Primary School
✨ Saxonwold Primary School
✨ Pinnacle College Linden
✨ Blairgowrie Primary School

Ahead of the performance, the young dancers will work with experienced Moving into Dance facilitators, developing not only their dance skills, but also creativity, confidence, discipline and teamwork.

And for some of these learners, this will be their first performance in a professionally equipped theatre. ❤️

The bigger picture? Joburg Moves Junior is helping introduce young people to Johannesburg's dance community while creating connections between schools, professional arts practitioners and higher education.

Because the future of dance doesn't begin when someone becomes a professional.

It begins when a young person gets the chance to take that first step. 💃🏽✨

🎨🦒 🐃 This last winter we were lucky enough to paint the playground for Melpark Primary School earlier this year. We replaced their old damaged mural with this amazing new piece. We painted 26 lifesize animals 🦁 🐘 to help the Grade 0s learn their ABCs- while they are on the playground.

Voting Day in 2H 🗳️🥰

The winner of the 2024 food elections is 🥁PIZZA 😂🍕

Today, we learned about the voting process, what is a democracy and why it’s important to vote.
My kiddos had a blast with this. They especially enjoyed making their own ID’s and getting their thumbs marked 🤩

We’ve made our mark today and hope you’ll be making yours tomorrow too! 😁
