Still on high from an amazing New York premiere and company debut for Sekou McMiller & Friends at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center @lincolncenter , performing โ€œUrban Love Suiteโ€. World premiered at @jacobspillow The energy, life and mastery on that stage was nothing less than electric. Combined with the enthusiasm of the audience, It was a perfect example of joyous collective effervescence. We should all be incredibly proud. We left it all on the stage, but we definitely have more to share in the future. I have an immense amount of gratitude for everyone who came out and joined us in the theater for a SOLD OUT show!. Your presences and energy was felt and gave us life!!!!! Thank you for such a warm welcoming!!! We couldnโ€™t have ask for anything more! And your kind words and reception afterwards were breathtaking as well as life affirming. A huge THANK YOU to our incredible team of musicians, dancers, production and company management for breathing new life into this project! Every single one of you brought something special and necessary to the table. Thank you for your patience, trust in me, yourselves and the process. Special thanks to my music director @sebastian.natal, rehearsal director @desireegodsell, lighting designer, @kateashtonlighting, sound engineer @wystanton, production stage manager @madisonjoyellis, dramaturg @jazzydramaturg, company manager @selena_maixe and my amazing cousin @mzmorris for stepping in while my company manager is on maternity leave!! They say it takes a village. It sure does. None of this could have happen without you all!!!! To the entire team from Lincoln Center from leadership, production, hospitality to accessibility you were beyond a pleasure to work with. We all felt very well taken care of and safe to be our best selves while expressing our art!!! Special thanks on the LCT team @meiyinwang, @shantourage @donbo615 #rebeccapopp @liamtorchiamusic and the wonderful @elicrenshawsmith. Also to @hsadance Teen Dance Ensemble and director @leylandsimmons, thank you for trusting me with your students. They did a fabulous job!! Thank you for everything, everyone, and until next time, stay amazing! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿฅฐ

Jazz is alive and well in Brooklyn! My Beloved @martinasdesigns presented this amazing opportunity for us to celebrate a great time right in our own backyard and @bricbrooklyn did not disappoint! What a wonderful presentation of artists we hadn't heard of. Every performance was GREAT. It was intimate, deeply personal and they bared their souls for all of us to FEEL them, as we looked on and embraced our own feelings of all the things that matter. They also had some things to say about the world we live in, to show you that we creatives are NOT living in a bubble removed from the world we all share. โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†โ˜† BRIC JAZZ FEST was a vibe and I loved every minute of it! โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†โ˜† In order of how we experienced them: Our journey began in the Gallery with @melvissanta (who we caught after the show) set the tone with her earthy, warm, inviting, jazzy and Afro-Cuban sounds. She is a new favorite we will seek out again! @salin_music was everything and the filled up room clearly meant she was there to throw down! She presented a pyschodelic disco and funky aoul thump that really felt good. One of my favorites. @braxton_cook felt like a summer afternoon in the sun. Very soulful, jazzy, a touch of R&B and Hip-Hop. In the ballroom we enjoyed @tyreek.mcdole who showed confidence, polish, poise and an astounding level of musical mastery that reminded me of the feeling "Sinners" gave me the first time we saw it. Also in the ballroom was @dey_bass who traveled through an amazing, polished and powerful set. Her style was sonically supreme. We've never experienced anything like her and her BAND was great! @toribious_monk closed out the night for us in the ballroom with a jazz-influenced house set that got us movin (see our video on my page). And thanks WBGO for the year-round presentation of real jazz vibes!! โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†
