How many of us *actually* know what state our bones are in, or if our movement patterns and capabilities are making us resilient or vulnerable to injury? I headed to @myvitalmetrics for my third DEXA scan with them, and this time, paired it with their Functional Movement Assessment to find out exactly that! 👀 📈

#ad They are the no 1 testing partner in elite sport, but you don’t have to be an elite athlete to access their services! Their comprehensive health and performance testing is open to everyone - and I would particularly encourage the women reading this to consider a DEXA scan to get informed about your bone health *before* a sign something might not be right.

Having objective data on what your body is made of and what it can do allows you to make more informed choices about how you approach nutrition / exercise / physio / medications and general and preventative health and lifestyle. And most of the time, it’s not about whether a number is good or bad, but what direction you’re moving in. 💪

Just got to keep trusting everything will fall into place 🤞🏼

New week, new training block and program from @mems_weightlifting, and a new chapter as an @lskd creator means you can expect to see some new pink gym fits on the way (as well as my go to pink pieces here you can see I’ve been wearing on repeat!) 💖 (Drop me a message if you’re thinking of getting some new things and I’ll link you to my favourite pieces!)

This competition ended up being all about resilience 💫 Approaching this competition whilst still rehabbing a shoulder injury already required me to shift my expectations and I knew I was going into it having not yet snatched my comp weights in training. What I *didn’t* see coming however, was getting a sick bug 24hrs from competition. 🤢

I barely managed to eat on Saturday, took to bed at 7pm feeling awful and woke up the morning of the competition with a heart rate 25 beats higher than usual 🤔, still not able to eat properly. My comp timings also changed last minute, and my regular pre-comp strategy was out the window, so I had to adapt, focus on hydrating and raising my sugar levels as best I could, and trusting in the hours of training and thousands of reps leading up to this point. Yes, being un/well and acute fuelling makes a big difference, but I KNOW our bodies are far more capable than we may feel, and if I approached it the right way mentally, I could still do my best in the circumstances. It wasn’t “optimal” and I know @mems_weightlifting could tell I was more stressed but overall I’m proud of how I showed up, coped with the unexpected, and gave it my all to make 4/6 lifts.

Snatches got off to good start hitting 41 then 43kg - missing 45kg was disappointing but not unexpected given I haven’t snatched that with my shoulder injury. I’d hoped to open heavier for clean and jerks but by this point I could feel my strength wasn’t there, so I opened on 58kg then had to fight much harder than usual for 61kg. After a quick bit of technical corrections, I think I surprised Mem slightly by standing 63kg, but unfortunately missed the jerk (rather dramatically!). I was depleted and just couldn’t drive the bar high enough and whilst I can sometimes save it, my foot slipped and there wasn’t much I could do! Disappointing, but I’m glad I went for it.

Had a good debrief with Mem today and there’s plenty for me to learn from. This next month is quite a big one for me outside of lifting 👀 but with another comp on 1st November, you bet I’m ready to come back stronger. 💪
