Over the past three years, my career has taken me places I only dreamt of in silence. I’m not going to front—working a 9-to-5 and then owning a 6-to-10 can be very trying.

Whether I’m building resumes & securing job placement for students, negotiating contracts & leading walkthroughs, sitting behind the mic or telling my truth in front of it, advocating for mental health, or doubling down on public health—it has all become part of my toolkit, & it hasn’t always been easy.

But this morning, I woke up to Proverbs 18:21: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Then I heard a word from @itsannajoy, and I was humbled, grateful, and reflective about the work I get to do.

Somewhere in there, I also had to ask God to forgive me for the times I have complained. Because whether it was needing a new vehicle without the ideal credit score, keeping my lights on when I had a pink slip, moving His hand so that my rent did not increase but my clientele did, or simply making sure my name was mentioned in rooms that would promote my gifts—I’ve never been without.

So, I will not only steward my gifts better, but I’ll also watch my mouth and shift my tongue toward more gratitude and more life.

✨#MeetHimMondays : Mental Health + My Smile✨

Full Transparency: From August to January, I had been to the ER, doctor’s offices, and specialists at least 8+ times. I was battling anxiety heavily. Quietly. Persistently.

There were moments I didn’t feel like myself. But this past weekend… I found my smile again.

@menarewrite hosted our monthly men’s mental health meetup — anchored around our journal and honest conversation.

We talked about the weight men carry.
The expectations we pick up that no one actually asks us to hold. We talked about showing up for our families differently.

But most importantly — we talked about showing up for ourselves. Every time we gather, I’m not just leading other men toward health.

I’m holding my own hand.
I’m releasing.
I’m healing out loud.
And I’m proud of this:

No ER visits.
No extreme anxiety.
No panic attacks in February.

Progress doesn’t always look loud.
Sometimes it looks like peace.

I’m finding my smile again…And I’m keeping it this time.

✨#MeetHimMondays : “You’ll Know Them by Their Fruit…”✨

The Bible says that you will know a tree by the fruit it bears. It also says that every good tree bears good fruit & that a good tree cannot bear bad fruit.

Yesterday, it hit my heart that in all my careers, in this journey to encapsulate—to articulate exactly what it is that I do for a living, I am bearing fruit! You see from Author to Mobile Expansion Coordinator, C.E.O. to Co-Director of Programming & Entertainment, to Podcaster, it often feels like I have to pick what to talk about when folks ask what I do for a living. When instead, I should just say, “I bear fruit!”

🍇: As an Author, I create mental health journals & discussion groups for men to grow & express themselves.

🍌: As an Mobile Expansion Coordinator, I design & facilitate large scale health events around Houston’s precincts that provide otherwise inaccessible, free to low-cost health services to every Houstonian & their animals.

🍓: As a C.E.O., I run a consulting firm that helps for profits, non profits, & boutique businesses position themselves & their brands in local & broad communities. In addition to connecting youth to summer scholarship programming & mentorship. As well as providing career consulting, resume crafting, & career connections.

🍎: As a Co-Director of Programming & Entertainment, I utilize my programming skills, partnered with my fraternity’s national programming to design effective events that increase access & education accross Black communities.

🍋: As a Podcaster, I produce a podcast (that is halfway to Season 5) that shares all Black truths, while providing a theraputic outlet for myself as well as my viewers.

This #LaborDay, as we honor workers’ achievements and highlight labor rights, I also usher in the close of summer with rest and reflection on the branches my tree is bearing. I am reminded of where my roots are planted—in God, community, and the joy of serving and impacting others. I remind myself that no good thing is ever wasted, and that fruit harvested by God can never be spoiled by man!
