Let’s talk about goal setting!

Most of us have really only known outcome goals. I want the win, the award, the championship.
But these can be so unmotivating. Because what happens? You either got it or you didn’t.

Did you know that there are other types?
Performance goals focus on your own improvement (ex. I will increase my on base percentage from .320 to .340) while process goals give you something you can actually control (ex. I will get in extra reps for 30 minutes before practice 3x a week).

And if you’re a recovering perfectionist like me, the research says using a range goal (ex. I will increase my on base percentage from .320 to .330-.340) can help (source: Williamson et al., 2025).

Extra bonus: make your goals SMART.

Totally impressed that the @menlobaseball team took in this info and are beginning to see there’s more than just outcome goals and what a big difference there is when you make a goal SMART!
