Little Place has been out for two weeks now. I found my stash of instants I took from the sessions. Pretty cute. Musicians are cute. Take a listen to the tunes for the first time or again and think of these cuties while you do.

@chris.dadge: co-producer & engineer, drums, percussion, bass, synth, and too many other things to mention / bored and quiet creator-er
@natetootshisownhorn: guitar, bass, sax, flute / smiles for miles-er
@brock__geiger: bass, guitar, synth/paint thrower-er
@jjmayo_: pedal steel/dream weaver-er
@mennett.bitchell: BG vox/positive viber-er

SHOW UPDATE! Sadly, Jon Mckiel has had to cancel the west coast portion of his tour. Bennett Mitchell is still making the trek out from Calgary, and is amazing and must be seen to be believed. We’re also happy to have Aiden Ayers join us to soothe you after election day, plus a special performance from Big Rig. Who or what are the Arpeggio Angels?! Find out at the show!

The Little Place video is very ready for you to watch on YouTube now.

The concept arrived during a phone conversation I had with Ava last August, and she literally started shooting from that summer to this spring. The piece is truly a labour of love and a testament to the practice of patience, letting the seasons pass to find the outcome. Time is precious, but I hope this video compels you to sit with some slowness.

I’d like to give a very special thanks to the wonderful humans who trusted us and our concept. Thank you for your vulnerability, bravery, and letting us be so close to capture all your beauty.

After nearly a decade with @nmccanada, it’s with many mixed emotions that I share I’ll be moving on.

Relocating to Montreal, I’m excited to be taking the next step as a freelance engineer and producer.

It’s difficult to overstate how much Calgary’s music community has shaped me, both personally and professionally. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to establish my career at the National Music Centre, and contributing to such an ambitious and inspiring project has been a privilege. Above all, I’m grateful for the countless artists and collaborators who have trusted me with their art along the way.

While Calgary will always be home, I can’t wait to get to know Montreal’s creative community and become part of the work happening there.

There are a lot of unknowns, and that’s what excites me most.

Impossible to condense all these years into 20 frames, but here are a few moments in time. Turn and face the strange!

“Pupil” is out today.

My intention was for it to convey dissimulation… the ways we perform, curate, and distract while something entirely different is happening underneath.

For the past year and a half, I’ve been caring for my dad through advanced dementia. Last week, while one of my scheduled posts was going live, I was standing over his hospital bed as he fought for his life, and I heard first hand what the docs dub a “death rattle”. He survived. But the absurdity of that moment stayed with me: a reel of me head banging trying to get your attention to continue the saga of shameless self promotion, while real life was happening in the realest of ways all going down at the exact same time.

I meant for “Pupil” to embody that contradiction, and I’m still living with that duplicity in real time. Oh the great lengths I’ll go to create decoys, but I offer nothing but my honesty in a song, and I hope you like this song. It still hits very close to home. 🤍
