POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Two of our Trustees, @mensunbound and Saul Pitaluga, both proud Falkland Islanders, are currently in beautiful South Georgia.

Here they are walking the final stretch of The Shackleton Way - from Hercules Bay to Stromness, passing by Tom Crean Lake.

This route mirrors the final stage of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s 1916 crossing of South Georgia, undertaken after his perilous voyage from Elephant Island aboard the James Caird with five crew.

More on their amazing adventure to come!

Thanks to @libbysmithy and @mensun_yellowleesbound for the superb photos

FMHT’s Trustee @mensunbound was delighted to speak at the @east_india_club in London last night with the incredible @natalie.hewit. Natalie was one of the Directors of Endurance, a film that charts the Trust’s quest to find the wreck in the treacherous Weddell Sea, alongside amazing colourised footage of Shackleton’s original expedition. Mensun and Nat, who were on the Endurance22 expedition together, shared their unique stories and perspectives on the challenges they faced. Endurance is currently streaming on Disney +. #endurance22 #shackleton

On this #worldmaritimeday, we reflect on 'Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity.'

Our Ocean - the vast waters around the Falklands, Shackleton’s journey through polar seas, the story of Scharnhorst;

Our Obligation - remembering what was lost, preserving heritage, honouring lives, protecting ecosystems;

Our Opportunity - to learn, to engage, to build a future that respects both history and the living ocean.

▶ Watch our short film weaving together the saga of Endurance, Scharnhorst and Falklands maritime heritage

🌍 FMHT at #GLEX25!

This weekend, explorers from around the world gathered in Ottawa for #GLEX25, hosted by the @rcgs_sgrc. Shackleton would have been proud, he was a member of @the_explorers_club

@falklands_maritime_heritage was represented by @mensunbound on a polar panel with @geiger.john, @davidlmearns and Jonathan Moore.
Discussion ranged from Terror to Erebus, Endurance and Quest.

The highlight? Listening to @profbriancox on the wonders of the planet, the universe and life itself.

Mensun said: “I have never known such an inspirational conference. Thank you to all who made this happen.”

Join us for a fascinating conversation with @RichardWiese, world-renowned explorer, Emmy Award-winning host of Born to Explore and the newly re-elected 46th President of @the_explorers_club - a role he has held seven times, including as the youngest-ever club president in 2002.
Wiese has spent decades leading expeditions around the world, from skiing to the North Pole to summiting Mount Kilimanjaro 18 times to taking part in the largest medical expedition to Mt. Everest, all while championing conservation, inclusivity and the future of exploration.
In this episode, he shares incredible stories of adventure, discovery and resilience, along with his vision for what comes next in the world of science and exploration. There are also some great anecdotes about explorers he's met, like astronaut Buzz Aldrin and Sir Edmund Hillary
We also delve into the 2025 Global Exploration Summit (GLEX), which will take place from September 12 to 14 at 50 Sussex Drive in Ottawa, headquarters of The Royal Canadian Geographical Society and Canadian Geographic (RCGS).
Hosted in partnership with the RCGS, this landmark event will bring together explorers, scientists, and storytellers from around the world to chart the future of exploration and celebrate the shared human pursuit of discovery. This year’s event will also mark the first time GLEX will be held on Canadian soil.
Founded in 1904, The Explorers Club, headquartered in New York City, has supported legendary figures such as Jane Goodall, Dr. Sylvia Earle, James Cameron, Sir Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay, and the Apollo 11 crew, among many others.
This is a great talk. Check it
