I want to say a huge THANK YOU to absolutely everyone who played a part in making our Alzheimer’s Fundraiser such a fantastic success! Thanks to so many amazing performers and the incredible audience, we raised $1,500 for this amazing organization!! 💜🤍 Every year I do this show in remembrance of my Pap and words can’t describe how thankful I am for everyone who continues to help find a cure for this disease. 🥹

I can not tag everyone in the show bc of insta limits but will do my best!
Continuing from yesterday….
There is video of the Talks and The Crooners and Finale linked in my bio

The Show was:
-The Peepshow, drag performed through the glass doors of CounterPulse for audience listening on headphones outside. A personal lipstynch in public
-The Photoshoot, a photo shoot for drag artists at Civic Center Plaza with a backdrop and city hall peeping through.
-The Talks, 4 pairs of drag artists in relaxed convo about the why and how of drag for them.
-The Crooners, two queens singing from the 2nd story windows of CounterPulse, their voices and backing track echoing down the block to the site of Compton’s Cafeteria Riots.
-The Finale, three new drag works made for the THEATER, with an opening performance by Gina LaDivina

Peepshow: Nicki Jizz / Hands / Lisa Frankenstein / Bonita Rose Mudd / Shiksa / Translucent / Beef Cakes Red Bone / Francis Sinclaire / Hollywood Texas / Glamputee Tila Pia / Kitty Litter / Kitty KaPowww / Die Anna

Photoshoot: Photographers Brandon Roberts and Marcel Pardo Ariza. Dj The Baptist. Drags: VERA, Newonce, HELIXIR, Bindi Masala, Venus Superstar Bizarre, Mary Vice, Yves Saint Croissant

Talks: Jota Mercury x Tyson Check-In, Mercedez Munro x Phoebe Cakes, Nicki Jizz x King Lotus Boy, Glamamore x Fauxnique

Crooners: Militia Scunt and Amoura Tease

Finale: Major Hammy, Pseuda, Churro Nomi, Gina LaDivina

While the show was created produced and directed by me- all of the artists involved made The Show- we built the stage and they did THE SHOW. This has been a particular vein of my larger artistic practice, creating platforms and projects to support the creation of new works by other artists. In these projects I act as producer and director and dramaturg. Maybe the best title would be Artistic Director. Ultimately it’s about relationships, relating to artists particularly around their practices, being mutually supportive and hopefully inspiring each other.

Category is EDUCATION! Make sure to come to RIOT! Pride 2024’s special screening of Paris Is Burning on Sept. 23

After the film, @honeymahogany and @mercedez_munro will be doing a Q&A to discuss how to be a proper ally to historically BIPOC art forms of expression, the line between tokenizing BIPOC art and being an ally, and how the art of ballroom and drag are useful tools to drive political change.
