🌱 Paul and Joan dedicate a lot of their time to nurturing the lush green area afforded to the students of St Clare College Malta in Pembroke. 🐝 In collaboration with Dinja Waħda, they are introducing native plants to the garden. These invite wildlife to the school grounds, including several Blue Rock-thrushes that sing from the school’s roof! 💙 Joan’s students feel enriched here; they too contribute to keeping up this green space. 🪺 St Clare College now also has a nest box, and we look forward to collaborating closely in the future. 👇🇲🇹 🌱 Paul u Joan jiddedikaw ħafna minn ħinhom iżewqu l-ispazju aħdar li St Clare College Pembroke toffri lill-istudenti tagħha. 🐝 F’kollaborazzjoni ma’ Dinja Waħda, qed jintroduċu pjanti indiġeni fil-ġnien. Dawn jistiednu l-preżenza ta’ ħlejjaq selvaġġi fl-akkwati tal-iskola, inkluż diversi Merilli li jgħannu mill-bejt tal-iskola! 💙 L-istudenti ta’ Joan jistgħanew hawn; huma wkoll jikkontribwixxu fit-tiżmim ta’ dan l-ispazju aħdar. 🪺 St Clare College issa għandha kaxxa tal-bejta wkoll, u ninsabu ħerqana sabiex inkomplu nikkolaboraw fil-futur.

🤩 The @merillimalta project already has some interesting data on the movements of Blue Rock-thrushes since starting the project in 2022. 🪺 Giovanna, an adult female Blue Rock-thrush, had been fitted with the white colour-ring M05 on Manoel Island in April 2022. She was seen there a handful of times after that, most recently in summer 2023 with her freshly fledged chicks. But she wasn't seen at all on Manoel Island in 2024... 📸 Then, last January, she started regularly visiting a bird table in a private garden in Valletta. How do we know this? Martin Galea de Giovanni, director of Friends of the Earth Malta, had set up a birdtable in his roofgarden with a motion-triggered webcam and filmed her there. This showed us that female Blue Rock-thrushes can change their breeding territory during their adult life! 🪴 Even small green spaces can help support urban biodiversity and bring us in contact with the animals with whom we share our cities! A big thank you to Martin for sharing the information and birdcam footage with Merilli Malta! 👇🇲🇹 🤩 Il-proġett Merilli Malta diġà ġabar tagħrif interessanti dwar il-movimenti tal-Merilli minn mindu beda l-proġett fl-2022. 🪺 F’April tal-2022 libbisna ċ-ċurkett tal-kulur abjad M05 lil Giovanna, Merill mara adulta, ġewwa Manoel Island. Erġajna rajniha fuq din il-gżira drabi oħra, l-iktar riċenti fis-sajf tal-2023 mal-frieħ tagħha. Imma fl-2024 ma dehritx ġewwa Manoel Island… 📸 Imbagħad Jannar li għadda bdiet iżżur bird table fi ġnien privat ġewwa l-Belt Valletta. Kif nafuh dan? Martin Galea de Giovanni, id-direttur ta’ Friends of the Earth Malta, installa bird table atrazzata b'webcam fil-ġnien tiegħu. Giovanna bdiet iżżuru regolarment, u b’hekk skoprejna li l-Merilli nisa adulti jistgħu jbiddlu t-territorju li fih jgħammru. 🪴 Anki spazji ħodor żgħar jistgħu jkunu ta’ kenn għall-biodiversità urbana u jqarrbuna mal-annimali li naqsmu l-ibliet magħhom! Grazzi lil Martin talli qasam l-informazzjoni u l-filmat ma’ Merilli Malta!
