One of the most rewarding parts of teaching is getting to share my studio practice with the next generation of artists. Just a few days after installation, my @prattfineart Life Study I class became the first group to visit my new public sculpture, Undercurrents, at the Brooklyn Army Terminal. Afterward, we headed to my painting studio and Futureworks Makerspace, where they spent the afternoon drawing the machines I used to fabricate the sculpture and saw how sculpture, painting, and drawing intersect in my practice. I was incredibly lucky to have such a thoughtful and talented group that semester. I’m hoping to organize a group exhibition of their work this fall. What’s one experience outside the classroom that changed the way you think about making art?
