spring before you land

kutzscher and ana and ali and popp
downstairs and dead drunk
the house is small but merry when full
and most mornings hurt

the sun comes out and you can smell the flowers on the hill
and picasso is dead fifty years

they serve cod roe at Norman's
not sure I'm Atlantic enough
I like the clear skies and sober mornings
and cold showers after the seven thirty gym
and twelve hour days and good sleep

writing, wild and restless, needs drunks the way ethan hawke pronounces them when he reads kerouac and I'm in soho every weekend and not on the road but there's a similar madness in the air and I don't smell the scent of a new city after eight hours on a greyhound because I feel home here and you forget how home smells when you're always there and my chest hurts as do my shoulder and arms because instead of protein shakes I do penicillins on gym days

thursday, it's a fucking thursday and sook downs six stiff manhattans and bruno rolls in all motivated and we get him shots with his first round and olly puts my name down for the day after tomorrow because tomorrow will hurt and we have a hell of a time and I forget I told sebbie I'd be back in the office. popper comes in unexpectedly and mertham too and his friend and we drink hard and mertham says join for dinner tomorrow

bruno and I give up after seven rounds or so and we do a five guys to close the night and hug goodbye in front of the w where I had a wild night with ale end once and I have fifteen minutes on my hands and there's a burger king between where we hugged and where my train leaves so I go all in and I'm not proud

and the friday hurts as expected but that's OK because I'm home and bubita is gonna call and I'm gonna do a peaceful one until mertham texts and yes yes yes I did say I'd join and mamá taught me to not let people down so I don't and I take a shower and put on all beige layers and doppo it is

three birras and two proseccos in and we're six and popper looks hot as always and somebody talks about his first seven digits and I'm nowhere near and sat across a girl that's 24 like you and did fashion like you and she says she's never been in a relationship like you and I want a twin brother to replace me after my irish exit to take her hand and squeeze it and say it's all good and the bill is half a g and we split and I know it's time to go home so I hug them all goodbye and tomorrow is another day at SOMA

it's saturday suddenly and I sweat out the booze in the gym and buy on the road for max on my way back and study term structure theories and
