Chicago, IL – On October 15, students mobilized to the University of Illinois Chicago’s (UIC) University Hall to deliver an open letter demanding an end to UIC’s “open expression” form and a stop to the university’s restrictions on free speech for student organizations. The protest was put on by Students for a Democratic Society at UIC (SDS) as a part of the SDS’ National Day of Action and to fight back against recent attacks on progressive student organizations.

The “open expression” form requires UIC students to fill out paperwork through the dean of students when rallying or speaking out on campus.

Last night we held a town hall to summarize our progress in the campaign to end collaboration between CPD and ICE.

Most recently, our Immigrants Rights working committee celebrated a victory following the announcement that the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability will be holding quarterly public hearings on the topic of CPD-ICE collaboration which the police superintendent will be required to attend. This victory came from over a year of community pressure demanding action from the CCPSA to investigate and draft policies to end the clear instances of collaboration witnessed by community members before during and after Trump’s operation Midway blitz.

We have seen countless examples of CPD collaborating with ICE in Chicago, including ICE directing CPD officers with body cameras to stay away from where they were discussing the shooting of Marimar Martinez, CPD forming perimeters around ICE operations and facing the community, and ICE vehicles operating out of police district parking lots.

The movement to stop police crimes fought hard to create the CCPSA, and we are now in a higher level of struggle because of its existence. We applaud the commissioners who are fighting to hold CPD accountable, and we will not stop fighting to make the body truly accountable to the communities who face the brunt of police repression.

Visit CAARPR.org/IRWC to join the fight. Thanks to @pilsenpuno for collaborating with us on this event!

After three years of genocide and over 75 years of illegal Zionist occupation, the Palestinian people remain steadfast in their righteous struggle for self-determination, national liberation, and the right of return for all Palestinians. Those of us living in the U.S. have a duty and an obligation to also remain steadfast in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance. We must continue to cut the flow of material support for genocide through sustained divestment campaigns, boycotts, and shutting down ports, shipments, and manufacturing facilities for weapons and weapon components. We must continue to visibly resist the genocide through mass mobilisations in the streets. We must continue to organise and consolidate the masses, be disciplined in our work, and link and raise the Palestinian cause to our struggles here.

If you’re not part of an organisation yet, join one today. Unity and organisation is how we win. Join @uspcn @antiwarchicago @frsochicago @caarprnow @anakbayan_chicago @chicago_chrp @sdsatuic @illinoisdivestnetwork.
