POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

“Mundos Imaginarios Aquí y Allá” (Our Imaginary Worlds Here and There), by Melinda Salazar, Ph. D, Watercolor painting, 30 x 28 inches, from “Migration – A Journey Towards Oneness”
www.greenacre.org > THE ARTS > Migration

The migratory patterns of flora and fauna follow seasonal changes for warmth, food and survival. Humans move in response to forced persecution, violence and conflict, ecological or economic instability. Gender discrimination and inequality impact girls and women differently with increased risk for gender-based exploitation, sex trafficking, abuse and forced labor.

Women’s stories are woven with common yarn of many colors and women’s narratives are painted from similar palette of diverse hues. We live in imaginary worlds, worlds our ancestors left behind and worlds we strive to make meaning of.

Upon arrival in the U.S., our identities become halved and we are divided into parts. We are called hybrids, half-breeds, mixed, and masala. We are blended, exoticized, and intersectionalized. We piece fragments, shards and remnants of memories carried here from there by our abuelas, abuelos, tias, tios, primas y primos. Some of us are acculturated, some of us resist. But we all are storytellers, who like the rocks and minerals, change under pressure from heat and over time, we emerge anew. We re-claim, re-imagine, and be-come a generation of women who transform the very fabric of global society for the peace and prosperity for our children, grandchildren and their children for seven generations....

200 Hour YTT begins in January! 🌟 Meet your Faculty

Join us for our next 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training, coming in January 2026!

This in-depth training explores the many facets of yoga: from the nuts-and-bolts of yoga poses, to the historical roots, the philosophy and the modern context of the practice. We emphasize the social impact of a yoga practice through decolonizing our understanding of yoga.

Our 200 hour training is open to yoga students who are curious to learn more about yoga beyond poses, and want to refine their understanding of the techniques we practice on the mat. This training is also the first step for those who want to teach.

Each weekend is 15 hours, and includes time on the mat to practice, as well as discussion. We value learning through participation and experience, you will move, talk, laugh and think when we meet.

We include a broad array of topics presented by skilled teachers with lived experience to provide a well-rounded introduction to the rich topic of yoga. Our students leave with a refreshed connection to their practice and with a deeper understanding of how yoga guides our lives and actions.

Tiered Pricing: $2700 // $3000 // $3300 - Payment Plans Available.

Matter over mind @mainemarathon for a surprise PR of 3:08, 21 mins faster than my last @nycmarathon 😵‍💫 Was somehow rested and aiming for consistent splits to hit a qualifying time for @bostonmarathon What unfolded over the next three hours was a testament to discipline, determination, and an affirmation of the mantra that keeps me not only running but trying to be better and more resilient ‘pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.’

Supported by all the Mom’s in my life, by Oona, by the incredible community of Portland, ME and the fantastic organizers of @mainemarathon I am truly grateful. Grateful for a much needed cry after crossing the finish line. @atreyurunning Race Model with 250+ miles pushed me onward. But what kept me going, mile after mile, was the acknowledgement of the privilege I have to indulge in such a self-reflexive pursuit. My heart aches for those trying to simply exist in war zones throughout the world. I run because I literally can’t stop moving! but also so I can grow and learn and better understand the small ways I can contribute to a peaceful future. To share an experience, running 26.2 or 13.1 miles, with total strangers is an affirmation of the common bond that connects humanity. That alone is a reason to keep running ♥️

We had a lovely opening for the Qualities of Equality art show on Saturday evening, with over 40 people in attendance, including 8 contributing artists. In keeping with the show’s theme, @amplify_kinship’s Beth Tener, community artist in residence, lead an insightful exercise where participants placed various qualities or attributes along a spectrum from feminine to masculine from their perspective. The show will be on display at Green Acre’s Reimer Hall through December 7th, 2024.
