📣 DEADLINE OCTOBER 4 Writers and activists are invited to a two-week residency on the coast in Point Reyes Station, California. The residency offers time and space in natural surroundings to develop, define, and offer ideas that will address the most pressing and current social issues of our time. Writing projects related to climate, social justice, and economic equity are ideal. The residency is open to emerging and established writers in all genres, with priority given to nonfiction books, long-form journalism, documentary film, and podcasts. Three writers will live together in a house with both private and shared spaces. There is no fee to attend, but residents are responsible for their own transportation, travel, and meals. 🔗 Learn more and apply via the link in bio, or by visiting ACA's Directory at www.artistcommunities.org #grow #timeandspace #support #opencalls #artistcommunitiesalliance #artistcommunitiesorg #artistresidencyspace #residencyprogram #residencylife #residency #artistresidency #artist #opencall #writersresidency #writingresidency #MesaRefuge

[🗣️SWIPE!] A residency can be a great experience for writers and artists who seek dedicated time away to focus on their craft. They often provide housing accommodations, a private studio space, and meals throughout the day - all to help you overcome the daily distractions of life so you can work on or complete a specific project. A typical residency can range anywhere from one week to several months in duration. Galleyway has compiled a special round up of residency programs with upcoming deadlines. Check 'em out! #writingcommunity #bipocwriters #writerresidencies

had a great residency year - a hibernating month @macdowell1907 in the winter, blissful blooming 3 weeks @_conjunctions (semi surprise) in the spring, and then another surprise and gifted residency of a week from @mesarefuge - love this inadvertent portrait by residencymate/friend @thesusanito as it captures my absolute disavowal of chairs plus my stacks of notebooks - will be writing about one of the residencies for @poetswritersinc so won't spill it all here --

Woke at 4:30 am wrote until 8, ate wonderful food, talked to a wasp that had flown in and offered him a bite of my sandwich (yes I sit on the floor). He said bye and gallantly left. Back to work. Typical day @mesarefuge -

Thank you to Elizabeth Forsyth and to everyone who attended Tuesday's Grotto Night at the Main Branch of the San Francisco Public Library! Elizabeth moderated "MONEY, please! Fundraising and the Art of the Ask," a lively conversation about grants, philanthropy, and fundraising for literary nonprofits. She was joined by panelists Kamala Tully (ED of Mesa Refuge), J.K. Fowler, (ED for Bay Area Book Festival and founder of Nomadic Press), JD Beltran (grant writer, grant recipient, and grant-decider), and Dimple Abichandani, author of A New Era of Philanthropy. It was a fascinating discussion, and we thank everyone who came out for their thoughtful questions! Grotto Nights at SFPL take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month. We hope to see you at the next one! #WritersGrotto #SFEvents #BookEvent #SanFrancisco #Fundraising

My gratitude to everyone who has responded with encouragement and donations to support publication of the Confluence project with the @universitynevadapress If you want to support this work, please see the link in bio for the donation page at @fractured.atlas I am still about $1k short of my goal. But I also want to acknowledge the help I have had since beginning the work in 2014, including two remarkable residency programs. The first was @das_belfast , a wonderful community-access studio for digital arts in Belfast, UK. I learned to make crude fonts from historic handwriting - in this example, the Northern Irish writer WR Rodgers. And the two months of focused work allowed me the trials and mistakes that new things seem to require. In 2019 I received a residency at the amazing @mesarefuge in Point Reyes, California. For two weeks I focused on writing, in the encouraging company of writers @mckenziecramerlong and @sarahbrowningpoet . I also got to experiment with chalk and reading while walking. And I need to mention the University of California Natural Reserve System, now @universityofcalifornianature, and especially several weeks residencies at @yosemitesequoiafieldstations @sagehencreek and @snarl.ucsb . Hubs of research and curiosity, these ecological field stations provided the access to people, ideas, and backcountry areas at the foundation of the Confluence project.
