Changing the distorted, damaging Mexican-American narrative. Supporting films and filmmakers who tell our real stories. #amplifyyournarrative

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hollywood won't tell our stories, so Director Dr. Ruiz works on making sure we do! Dr. Jose-Luis Ruiz is a visionary director with a true passion for accurate, inclusive storytelling. Through his production company, Dr. Ruiz Productions, he creates 100% Rotten Tomatoes-rated films that bring Mexican American stories to theaters and Amazon Prime. But his impact goes beyond his own projects. As President of the Mexican American Cultural Education Foundation @mexamcef, he dedicates his time to opening doors for other filmmakers to share their authentic stories. 🎬#DrRuizProductions #MACEF #Mexamcef #Latino #Film #MexicanAmerican

Nobody really tells you how much producing will teach you until you’re the person responsible for actually getting the film MADE. 🎬

Every project has taught me something new about money, people, problem solving, asking for support and what happens after the AD finally yells WRAP!!!

I’m still learning…

But one thing I know for sure: I want to keep creating opportunities for women to tell their stories and build the infrastructure to actually get those stories made.

That’s a huge part of why I created MíraLA.

More women behind the camera.
More women making decisions.
More women owning their stories.

We’re just getting started. 💜

What has creating your own work taught you?

Who loves the black and white films. I am planing on filming my next film in black and white. Therefore, I am testing out different styles of black and white that I feel will work best for the feel of the film. Let me know if you have filmed in anything in black and white and what to expect. #nandocarter #sonycine #sonyfx6 #indiefilmmaker #cinematicvlog

As part of Dr. Ruiz’s commitment to advance the Latinos Film community, he secured a powerful list of industry executives who have the power to greenlight a project…This is what we all need!!!!

In the photo we have:
⭐Derek Szempruch - Co-Founder, Superimposed
⭐Lizzy O. Gonzalez – Director of Development & Acquisitions, Premiere Entertainment Group
⭐Moisés Zamora – Founder & CEO , SLATE
They were all present to listen to the final pitch of the 10 MACEF Masters Workshop, & with some luck, some of the projects will be picked.

⭐ Erik Gonzalez @kiregonz - Director, US Marketing & Distribution The Avenue (is not in the photo, but has agreed to oversee all the pitches)

Also, we had Executive Producer/filmmaker Moctesuma Esparza & Talented Director/filmmaker Jesus Trevino who are faculty of the MACEF workshops.

In addition to producing films that shine a positive spotlight on the Latino community, Dr. Ruiz serves as the President of MACEF (@mexamcef) #DrRuizProductions #MACEF #MexicanAmerican #Filmmaker #Representation

I couldn’t have asked for a better festival run for my very first film. Thank you to all the organizers who put together these wonderful festivals. I’m grateful for the people I got to meet through them and for the audience members who stopped to talk to me and tell me how Pocha resonated with them. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had this experience 🤎🍊🇲🇽 #Pocha #nosabo #chicana #latinafilmmaker #newmexicotrue ©2026 Anna Lisa Padilla
