I’m joined by @julieannecamp at the redevelopment site of @griffintheatre. For almost 50 years, this theatre has acted as a creative home for budding writers, actors, and directors, kickstarting the careers of names like Cate Blanchett, Suzie Miller @suziemillerwriter , and Meyne Wyatt @meyneg .

We gained an exclusive look at all the progress so far alongside @ollyforsydney and @crlyndongannon .The new theatre will include a larger foyer and bar, and it will now be fully wheelchair accessible.

Griffin will also retain the stall seating and stable doors as a tribute to the building’s history as a horse stable.

A huge thanks to the @cityofsydney for their generous grant of $1 million, making it possible for the theatre to continue to support Australian playwriting.

I am so eager to visit the finished site in 2027. If you’d like to stay up to date with their progress, sign up for the Redevelopment Newsletter via the link in their bio. 🔗

I’m a STORYTELLER, not a GRANT WRITER.

Two months ago I had the absolute pleasure of being part of the @moogahlin Yellamundie Festival which gives both seasoned and aspiring theatre makers the opportunity to get in a room with collaborators for 2 weeks and present/pitch to an audience willing to witness the early heartbeat of our ideas.

My piece, DIARY OF A CITY BLAK is a work in progress that navigates my Blak, Black, Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Indigenous, First Nations (pick whichever speaks to you) diaspora. A piece about identity, yearning, and carving out a space in the city that rarely makes room for us.

I want to thank the entire team at @moogahlin for the opportunity. I’m proper grateful, not just for the platform, but for reminding me I’m on the right path, even after the constant knockbacks from white/mainstream orgs that nearly had me giving up on opportunities like this. I felt truly supported from beginning to end, and I’d 100% recommend this program to any aspiring theatre makers.

To my team deadly team! @sharileesebbens , Nathan Maynard, Amy Flannery, @norulesjustpassion, thank you for pushing me, supporting me, reminding me to eat and holding me through those two weeks as I searched for my language and vision on stage. Thank you for challenging me to explore new ways of storytelling outside my comfort zone.

And to everyone who came to the showing and went on that journey with me, thank you. 🙏🏾 I did not expect that ovation for a work still in development, but you chose to come on that ride, and I’m deeply grateful. 🙏🏾

Wow, 1 year ago today I opened the doors to my first ever lil Blak retail store on Lonsdale Street. A busy street in the heart of Canberra filled with some amazing artisans, cafes & more.

We are the ONLY 100% Aboriginal Owned and Operated retail store here who has a shop filled with 100+ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Small businesses, artists and authors.

In the last 365 days we have been able to inject over $300000 to our many stockists which carries over to many Blak families and communities.

We have established solid relationships with local organisations and departments. We have become preferred suppliers for gifts and catering. We have been nominated for awards and are a finalist in a local business award this week.

Not only this, the overwhelmingly positive response and acceptance from the Canberra community has shown that our space matters, you want us to be here and we want to continue to share it with all of you.

From politicians to actors, authors, musicians, influencers and even the Governor General, we have shared our space with so many.

We’ve sponsored our own female Raider, donated hampers and gifts to all different people and orgs because we believe community matters and we genuinely want to contribute as much as we can. Tash has been lucky to be sponsored by some amazing companies who have helped contribute to the space.

We are here to stay and we can’t wait for the next year to see where we are.

A huge thank you to my family, especially my husband Josh and my three babies (usually you’ll see me working with a baby on my hip and my big boys running amuck). To the ones who come and love me and my babies and help out whenever you can. I appreciate you so much & to everyone who has shopped with us and helped keep my dream alive. THANK YOU

*we are celebrating our first birthday officially on the 6th December, more info to come*

LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Tash & the team x
