POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Started in 2017 by The Marmalade Trust, Loneliness Awareness Week (15-21 June) is the world’s largest campaign to inspire conversations about loneliness.

This resonates very specifically with us thanks to our pioneering work in Therapeutic Photography. We work everyday with groups, communities, schools and charitable organisations to inspire these conversations, with many workshop participants never having felt the ability to talk openly before.

The difference that a therapeutic photography session can make, whether surrounded by strangers, contemporaries, colleagues or friends, can not be underestimated and we are privileged to bear witness to so many profound moments with many that we now call friends of Belfast Exposed.

The image on this post was taken by @davidmckinneyphotoart who recently exhibited a solo show with us, a photographic journey in response to his own lived experience with loneliness.

David’s work is also part of ‘Beneath the Surface’ the current exhibition of work by the @mfaphotobelfast graduates.

If you, or someone you know is experiencing a sense of loneliness, small moments of connection can make a difference and it is important to seek out support from those that are creating welcoming spaces to help others feel seen and heard.

Also opening tomorrow (Thursday June 4th) is ‘Beneath the Surface’, the new show of work from graduates of the @mfaphotobelfast programme at @ulsteruni

The exhibition reflects the ambition, criticality and creative experimentation fostered through the MFA Photography programme and offers audiences an opportunity to engage with a wide range of contemporary photographic practices emerging from Northern Ireland today.

Bringing together the work of nine talented individuals, we are delighted to once again be the gallery partner for this showcase exhibition.

Even better news is that this work will grace our upstairs gallery walls for a full two month run so you’ve plenty of time to see it.

Of course, if you can, we’d love to see you for @latenightart_belfast tomorrow from 6-9pm.

Full details in the What’s On section of our website.

That’s a wrap on ’Still Looking’ at the International Centre For The Image @image.museum.ireland 👏

Thanks to everyone who came out to see the show over the last few days, your support really means a lot!

I’ve been working on this body of work with my Dad throughout my time on the @photoireland RADAR Residency. The work is a dialogue between father and son, exploring the idea of care through photography. 📸

Special thanks to @onleaving_davidm @griffithcollegephoto @susangoganartist @sinead_murphy_photo @ellis_robert Eamonn Doyle, Lara Nagy and James Mason for all their help with the production of the work. Thanks also to my fellow RADAR residents — @ciara_r_photography @jakehughesphotography @finninit @by_evanna for their friendship over the last two years. Finally, massive thanks to @julia.gelezova and @bohoe for their support, it was a great honour to be part of this show! 🙏

The development of this work has been supported by the Arts Council of Ireland and the DLR Emerging Artist Bursary. @artscouncilireland @dlr_arts
