I haven’t competed in three years.

Everyone only posts the highlight reels—So let me tell you the bad. ( But No fake crying on camera 😂 because that is lame)

I went back home to Idaho for two years, just to be close to my family. I trained when I could, but my health kept throwing me curveballs. I gained about 20 pounds, I was barely training, and I slipped into a deep depression.

And in that space, I made choices I wouldn’t normally make. I ate my feelings, drank Tooooo much and honestly hated myself. So then I settled for a guy who wasn’t a good person and stayed in a relationship I knew wasn’t good for me—because I was lonely, overweight and felt lost. I felt like I didn’t have value.

Depression is a terrible cycle. I needed to change my environment. When I did I started to feel better. This created better habits and I started training again. My health got better, I was able to lose weight and my mental heath made a 180°

So after a few months my friend Rene bullied me into competing again. After all the self work this was will scary AF!!

Not the “excited nervous.” The real kind. I was terrified I took too much time off and I’d come back and do something stupid—mess up, gas out, do some shitty jiu Jitsu or just blow out a knee.

I made EVERY excuse in the morning not to go. I woke up feeling a little yuck, I felt my injuries more painful than normal. Blah blah blah I started telling myself I should just not go.

I went, I’m really happy with my performance. It was only one match, but my opponent was tough and I learned a lot on things to work on when I get nervous. I’m super grateful for my training partners who pushed me to be better, and helped be better in a better place 💕

Hay momentos que, sin saberlo, terminan cambiando el rumbo de tu vida.

Tuve la oportunidad de asistir a la primera edición de @fightmfl, vivir de cerca la emoción de este deporte, conocer a grandes peleadores y también a @mfljoe, CEO de la liga.

Estar ahí, ver todo lo que existe detrás de una liga y convivir tan de cerca con personas que ya están viviendo aquello que yo apenas comenzaba a soñar, despertó algo en mí.

Ese día nació una motivación diferente. No solamente quería ver las MMA, quería ser parte de ellas.

A partir de entonces comenzó un cambio que va mucho más allá de lo físico. Empecé a trabajar en mi cuerpo, en mi mente y, sobre todo, en mi disciplina. Entendí que si realmente quería perseguir este sueño, tenía que empezar por convertirme en alguien capaz de luchar por él.

Hoy sigo lejos de donde quiero estar, pero ya no estoy en el mismo lugar donde comencé.

Gracias a MFL, a Joe y a todas las personas que, sin saberlo, fueron parte de ese primer impulso.

Esto apenas comienza.
