POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This old girl recently came through the workshop with a hot no-start issue. Ride it to the pub, gets hot, won’t start again, he said.

We found a combination of charging system issues, incorrect ignition timing and a faulty plug lead. The points were reset, timing corrected and the charging system upgraded with Cycle Electric components.

The bike was also absolutely covered in oil, including the rear tyre. We deleted the leaking final drive chain bath system, rebuilt the leaky oil pump and replaced the cam bushing, cam seal, cam bearing and plastic breather gear while in the cam chest.

We also fitted a five-stud clutch and extra-plate kit to replace the worn fingers on the original three stud, adjusted the primary chain, cleaned and reset the old Keihin carb, sealed up the exhaust, and secured some loose handlebar riser bolts.

This wasn’t an overhaul, it was a focused repair and reliability job. There are still a few things left for Mitch to enjoy getting his hands dirty on, but the major issues have been addressed.

From an unreliable, oil-soaked bike to one that starts first go every time and runs plenty strong.

Pretty happy with the outcome on this one. She’s a beaut - 1981 FLT Tour Glide.

Thanks to Mitch for his trust and patience, good working with you buddy 👍
