Balancing a demanding career, personal life, training, and nutrition while living an international lifestyle has been a challenge on another level.

Traveling every month, staying consistent with my diet on the road, fitting in early-morning and late-night workouts around demanding workdays, and learning to set boundaries with the people around me.

This journey has taught me far more than discipline and consistency. It has challenged my organizational skills, tested my mental and physical limits, and taught me more than ever how to prioritize myself.

Because building a physique is one thing. We all start with different genetics and backgrounds, but learning to balance it all without losing yourself along the way is another. ✨

Medal Monday (Tuesday)

Last weekend I ran the Chicago marathon.

Running 26.2 miles through 29 different Chicago neighborhoods with 55,000 other runners and hundreds of thousands of screaming fans was an incredible experience.

Tackling my first marathon at age 45, at 200 lbs, with two kids and a busy surgeons practice was an extraordinary challenge.

It was also humbling and the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

I want to thank @fit2runmel and @athletico_pt for sponsoring the race and generously securing a spot for me to run.

I want to thank my running coach @theeliztaylor for creating my training plan.

I want to thank my trainer and nutritionist @warroomnutrition for getting my legs strong and diet on point. Also @mi_nutrition for my meal prep.

All my friends and family and patients who constantly encouraged me, my training partners @jonlauter and @jelefko, my marathon-guru sister @morganbcullen .

Most importantly, I want to thank my wife @chelseagracecooke . Not only for her love and support and patience during a summer of long runs on Sunday mornings; But for being my motivation.

She took a 6am flight to Chicago, navigated the L, and posted up on the course to cheer me on.
Once she texted me her location, I no longer thought about running 26 miles, I just focused on getting to Chelsea at mile 17, then again at mile 25.
Then she drove me home as I passed out in the back of my truck.

Now I get to rest and recover and cheer on everyone this weekend at the Detroit Free Press Marathon.

I’m going to take a minute this Sunday to reflect on my weight-loss journey. @mi_nutrition brought in some updated InBody scan machines and I had the opportunity to check it out today. I’m shocked at the results to be honest.

I started to make my health a priority almost 3 years ago. I’ve had ups and downs along this journey. I started on a GLP1 with great results… until I stopped taking it. Not to make this story any longer, it was absolutely the wrong move. Not because I needed it, but how I got off it. I don’t recommend it to anyone.

I lost about 80 lbs on it. Started at 315 lbs and made it to 235 lbs until I stopped taking it. I gained 40lbs back in about 6 months. It was fucking depressing.

A year ago according to the InBody my weight was 280lbs and 34% BF. Today 220lbs and 18% BF.

By the end of the year I will be below 200lbs and or below 15% BF.

My advice… don’t live or die by the scale, but use it as a tool to help you reach your goals.

I’ve had help along this journey. As I enter 2027 I will be taking my health journey to the next level.
